今天乐乐学校校长给大家发电子邮件,讲了最近户外活动的情况,我觉得有些感动。一个班2个老师,要带24个3岁到6岁的孩子。24个孩子一起出门是够混乱的。每天不仅出去户外玩一次,是三次(上午,吃完午饭,下午三次)。即使下雪的日子,孩子们也照例出去户外活动。冬天里24个孩子一天去户外玩三次,光是把衣服穿好就不知道要花多少时间。但是学校坚持每天三次去户外玩的政策,因为学校强烈认为孩子们每天需要在户外自由玩耍(unstructured, outdoor, creative play to learn and grow),这是成长的一个重要部分。
老师们通过给孩子们一遍遍重复外出穿衣的顺序,和回来脱衣的顺序来减少混乱,培养孩子自己动手的能力。出门的时候,穿衣顺序是1) 雪裤子,2) 雪靴子,3) 外衣,4) 帽子,围巾,和手套。怪不得乐乐回来的时候跟我讲应该怎样穿衣服。从室外回来的时候,脱衣的顺序是1) 手套,2) 帽子,3) 把手套放在帽子里面,4) 围巾,5) 外套,6) 把帽子(里面有手套)放在外套的袖子里,7) 雪靴子,8) 雪裤子,9) 把衣服裤子和鞋子挂在自己挂钩上。乐乐这一年半,在BH学校茁壮成长,跟学校的理念和老师的工作分不开呀。
校长给每个家长复印了报纸上的支持户外玩耍的研究文章。其实类似呼吁让孩子重归自然,增加户外活动的文章不少,其中不乏颇有学术性的文章。作者们对孩子们越来越远离大自然,缺少户外自由玩耍深感痛心,也列出很多科学研究结果支持自由玩耍。这文章让我想起小的时候,经常是玩到天黑了以后才回家,乐姥姥从来没有干涉过我。玩什么呢,一群小朋友随便玩什么都好 - 沙子,砖头,花花草草,过家家,翻跟头,跳皮筋,抓嘎喇蛤,轧关刀。真的是美好时光。现在的孩子可能完全没有这样自由玩耍的机会了,时时处处后面都跟着大人。我渴望给孩子们创造一个亲近自然的美好童年,但一直觉得自己的创造力有些局限性。
老师的信重新提醒我 - 寒冷冬天里,把孩子的户外活动进行到底。周六我们忙忙碌碌带着孩子买菜上课睡觉什么的,下午找时间陪她们出去玩雪。周日我带着两个孩子在户外走呀,走到哪里玩到哪里,目标是艺术博物馆,12分钟的路我们走了1个小时。她们充满了想像力。我们爬上了铁桥去艺术博物馆那边,下了铁桥,乐乐说我们走向海底世界。接下来树枝成为珊瑚,石头成为Ray(一种海鱼),街上的车都是鲨鱼。我们需要在海底游泳,或者像螃蟹横着走,正常在陆地上走路不允许的 (因为我有时没有遵循乐乐订的这个规则,她躺在地上两次表示抗议)。路上行人不多,那三个奇怪行走的人就是我们。地上有很多鸭子屎,所以我们在海里要小心鱼拉的屎。海底有好多雪,我们专门去踩雪,留下脚印,偶尔把雪弄到鞋子里。最终我们来到海底龙宫 - 艺术博物馆,观看了庆祝中国新年的表演 - 中国舞和日本鼓。中国舞蹈表演两场,我们都看了,两个人目不转睛。舞蹈演员退场了以后,两个小家伙舞蹈的激情被彻底激发起来,在大厅里自由舞蹈起来 - 旋转,打滚,飞扬,伸展 - 她们被美丽的中国舞感染了,在大厅里自顾自跳了15分钟 (两个人回家以后在家里只穿芭蕾舞鞋)。
两个人实在太累了。回家12分钟的路,走了40分钟,边走边玩。我也全副武装,奉陪到底,摸爬滚打。今天的户外活动和室内活动我还挺开心的,不知两个娃感觉如何?
前面是我们的海底龙宫(艺术博物馆),雕像据说是龙王。
老师给家长的信,非常的周到和细心。
Dear Parents:
Since the cold weather is upon us and we are all dealing with snow pants, mittens, hats, scarves and snow boots, I thought it would be helpful to write this email.
First, you all know that it is BH's policy to go outside every day, even in cold weather. We can do this safely when the children have appropriate outdoor clothing.
However, we will adjust the amount of time spent outside when the temperatures are extreme.
It takes a lot of extra work on the staff's part to get children dressed and undressed up to three times per day.
I know we are all starting to feel a little bit frustrated trying to find all the articles of clothing when the children are being picked up.
Below is the BH routine for handling outerwear.

All the while, staff members are watching and assisting the children. Even with this routine in place, clothing gets misplaced. Mittens fall out, a scarf gets dropped, a child drops a boot, and another child picks it up and puts it in another child's cubbie.
It is a tremendous help to staff and parents when all articles of clothing, including mittens, scarves, and boots, are clearly labeled. Feel free to write your child's name on the outside/inside of all articles with a permanent marker. You can also put a piece of masking tape inside boots with your child's name on it.
Another helpful hint is to send your child's outerwear in a reusable bag with their name marked on the outside.
If your child is missing an article of clothing, it is best to talk to your child's morning teacher.
With a little patience and a sense of humor, we will get through this together.
