打开学校网站，进入博客，竟然看到了乐乐的照片。她们博客大概一个月一篇，内容都差不多。据说学校的原则是不能在网上放有孩子正面脸的照片，就是不能看出来谁是谁。但这个是我们乐乐呀，在专心工作呢。开学两周了，乐乐显然已经进入角色。第三周开始就每天喊着要去bala house。昨天我跟她说，你们明天要开始上tumble tots课了(就是一种动作+蹦蹦跳跳+舞蹈的课)。乐乐想了一会儿说，妈妈我不想去上跳舞课，我想去bala house。小家伙不知道这课是在学校上的呢。乐乐不止一次跟我说，妈妈，我喜欢bala house。喜欢就好。
上个周四，我花了两个小时在乐乐教室的观察窗口观察。观察窗口就是外面的人能看见里面的人，但是里面人看不见外面。我观察了两个小时，其中乐乐和Margo(一个新学生)一起做了一项活动，其余时间乐乐就走来走去，紧跟着老师，看看这个，看看那个，有小朋友去上厕所，老师陪着去，她也陪着去。有小朋友在刷盘子，拎着水桶去厕所打水，老师陪着去，她也跟着去。我想这可能是很典型的新学生的作风。就像老师在博客里说的，第一个月的主要任务是建立起routine规则程序，培养新孩子的独立工作和自理能力。想一想，二十多个孩子，就两个老师，不独立的话，老师可管不过来。
有一个叫作Rainer的小男孩看起来很成熟，他一直在独立地工作，入学前的过渡期就看到他和妈妈在一起拼单词! 她妈妈解释说因为她有一个姐姐。
乐乐属于很安静，很害羞的孩子。无论在哪里，她通常需要一阵子才能热起来。老师说她头一两周不太说话，比较安静，喜欢跟着老师，爱观察，但是看起来很peaceful (内心宁静)。老师说这是好的品质呀，乐乐做事情之前喜欢观察和思考，想清楚了再做。
从中午吃饭开始，Jessica老师就下班了，然后1点钟回来还有下午班级的学生来上学。Cora老师陪孩子吃完午饭也下班了。然后另外的老师就接手午睡和下午活动。这样的安排是因为很多孩子上半天班，很多孩子不睡午觉，还有很多孩子三点就回家了。所以中午以后，很多活动就是各个班混在一起的。每天我6点前去接乐乐，她都是最后剩下的一两个小朋友 - 全校将近100个小朋友呢。下午的老师Carolyn对乐乐很好，乐乐每天最后一个才能醒来，Carolyn就抱乐乐一会儿，让她清醒过来。每天我或乐爸去接乐乐，她都在专注地做事情，看起来很不情愿回家的样子。
接送乐乐上学放学的时候，我总是禁不住从后视镜或者快速回头看看后座的乐乐。她安静地坐在那里，神态平和peaceful。我就想，多好的孩子呀。

We are so excited to be back at
school. Welcome to all of our new children and families and welcome
back to all of our returning students. We also want to welcome our
new morning assistant, Miss Cora. Miss Cora brings prior experience
as a classroom assistant as well as a nurturing and positive
demeanor to the classroom. We are very happy to have her with
us.
We are
We are very pleased with the
adjustment of our new friends. Each day they are feeling more
secure and confident in their new environment. Separation can be
challenging at the start of the school year and I commend all of
our parents and caregivers on their brief, cheerful, and confident
goodbyes. Your children are getting the message that school is a
safe and happy place. Each child’s adjustment process is unique. It
is normal for your child to have some tears and anxiety.
Experienced Bala House parents, children, and staff will all assure
you that this is a passing phase. Hang in there. You are doing
great.
The classroom is buzzing with busy children choosing work, receiving lessons, and working together. During the first few weeks of school we are focusing on establishing routines, teaching skills toward independence, introducing classroom materials, learning classroom ground rules, and making new friends. This early groundwork leads to a smooth and happy school year.
During the fall season our curriculum themes include; the harvest, farms, fall produce like apples and pumpkins, trees and leaves, and the changing of the seasons. We will be presenting works such as parts of a leaf and parts of an apple and noticing the fall changes all around us. As always, we will be singing everyday. Some of our class favorites include; The More We Get Together, Keep on the Sunny Side, Erie Canal, and Down by the Bay.
We are moving toward more fresh, healthy, whole food snacks like fruits and vegetables in the classroom. We will need your help. Each family will take a turn providing weekly snack items. We will send a list home with your child with their weekly paperwork when it is your turn. Children love to shop for these items with you and bring them for their class.
We will be putting a signup sheet on the classroom door for our mystery readers. Parents are invited to sign up to visit the classroom to read a story to the children. This is a wonderful opportunity to spend some time with your child in the classroom, share a favorite book, or share a children’s story from your culture. The morning class will have mystery readers on Fridays at 10:15 a.m.
