奥巴马在演说方面是个天才，听他的演讲，有人会感到热血沸腾。他的听众会激动地流泪，尤其是黑人，因为奥巴马的演讲给他们希望，给他们改变的动力。很多人佩服他，妈妈就不在这里罗哩罗嗦地说如何欣赏他的演讲了。

说和写是人们传递信息，表达情感，交流思想的工具。记得妈妈在学校的时候，也有参加演讲比赛，可是很多演讲就象是华丽词语堆砌起来的空中楼阁。参加演讲的同学号召大家努力学习，为祖国做贡献等等，主题是好的，听起来很美，但是内容有些空洞，没有生活基础，让人感觉全是大道理。

想要做一个好的演讲者，几个可能需要具备的条件是: 思想，实践，文字，表达。思想 - 多读书，多思考，多交流；实践 - 重在参与，比如说社会实践。文字 - 多读书，多练习。表达 - 练习，参加象Toastmaster International这样的组织。在这所有要点之上的就是 - 发自内心。如果是从内心发出的声音和呼唤，人们想听到更多。

大学一，二年级的时候，奥巴马说，" I noticed that people had begun to listen to my opinions.  It was a discovery that made me hungry for words.  Not words to hide behind but words that could carry a message, support an idea.  When we started planning the rally for the trustees' meeting, and somebody suggested that I open the thing, I quickly agreed.  I figured I was ready, and could reach people, where it counted.  I thought my voice couldn't fail me."

他摘录了自己在一次关于非洲和黑人的集会上的演讲，"It is happening an ocean away.  But it's a struggle that touches each and everyone of us.  Whether we know it or not.  Whether we want it or not.  A struggle that demands we choose sides.  Not between black and white.  Not between rich and poor.  No - it is a harder choice that that.  It's a choice between dignity and servitude.  Between fairness and injustice.  Between commitment and indifference. A choice between right and wrong..."

他这时的文风已颇有后来从政时讲话的风范。希望他成为一代伟大的总统，击破"他就会说"之类的攻击。

奥巴马后来和朋友对话，对自己这次成功的演讲的反省和嘲讽 - 他美丽的词语根本无法切实地帮助那些需要帮助的人。很大程度上，他的"反省"不断地推着他去寻找自己的方向。
