Hi everyone, its Midi, I’m here on the airplane on my way back
to Beijing. For the past five days I was in Chengdu, my mom’s
hometown. I am excited to tell you about my trip.
Before I tell you about Chengdu there’s a story I really have to
tell. Ok so, this morning we (me, my mom, and my sister) left the
hotel at 9:45 because our flight was supposed to be at
11:30. We got to the
airport at 10: 20 and all the lights were out, all the screens were
blank, and the escalators stopped. We walked up to the people at
the security check in and asked them what was going on and they
said there was a power outage, never heard that one before. My mom
laughed and said, I think this is the first time an airport has had
a power outage since World War 2. We asked how long the power has
been out and when it was going to go back on, and they said it’s
been out for 10 minutes and, because this was the first power
outage they’d had, they had no clue. We decided to wait, but after
half an hour we got thirsty so my mom sent me to go get some water,
I brought my camera too. I ran up the frozen escalator and bought
some water. I looked over the second floor balcony and if you can
imagine a thousand people or more laying, sitting, or leaning on
suitcases, chairs, magazine stands, and the floor, you can imagine
what I saw. I just watched
everything for a few minutes but then remembered what I was
supposed to do, and then ran down the escalator and handed my mom
and sister water. My mom was kind of annoyed by the situation and
my sister was too, but I thought it was cool I mean I don’t think
this kind of thing will happen to me again any time soon. I decided
to make the best of it so I ran up and down the escalator like 10
times and then took some pictures (I’ll try to post them) and then
went back to where my mom was waiting. It was 12: 20 and it was
really hot, no air conditioning, no cold water, no ice, no
bathrooms, and we’d been waiting in the airport for 2 hours. We
decided to go have lunch, so we left the airport and had Mexican
food, haha our last meal in Chengdu was Mexican. After lunch we
went to check if the airport had power yet, it was 2:30, no power
so we went to a tea house next to the airport, there was no power
there either, we realized that when the power turned on at the tea
house it would turn on at the airport. There was a Ma Jiang set and
neither me, my mom or sister could play Ma Jiang so I came up with
a game using the pieces. Finally after 45 minutes the power turned
on and we went back to the airport. We went in and there were
thousands and thousands of people in lines waiting to get on an
airplane. After checking in and doing all that boring airport
stuff, we got on the airplane and I realized I lost my purse. I had
my ipod, phone, and money in there. My mom called
the restaurant and they said it wasn’t there. I was sure I left it
there, so my mom called her friend who lived next to the restaurant
and asked her to check. She went over and it was there so when her
sister is coming to Beijing in a few days she is going to bring it
with her. What a relief. Oh ya, and then while we were waiting for
the other passengers to board, another power outage! Haha, lucky
for us the everyone got onto the plane but we still had to get
disconnected to the sky bridge so people pushed the sky bridge away
and we went up into the sky. Oh and my mom got a bunch of mosquito
bites one second let me count… 32! Now let me tell you a little bit
about my trip
While I was there I got to go to a cartoon studio for the
cartoon that I am writing the theme song for. It was so cool. There
were characters all over the walls and every thing was colorful.
After a long meeting, I got to look around the studio. One of the
artists was telling me the process of making a cartoon: First you
have to draw it on a computer pad, then you have to add color, then
you have to make a virtual model. It sounded like fun so I asked if
I could make one, he said sure and he took me over to a computer
with a big computer drawing pad and a computer pen. He showed me
the different controls like making the lines bigger or smaller and
adding color, and then I started making my character. (I’ll try to
attach it to my blog).
I’d love to tell you more my trip but we’re landing soon. I’ll
tell you more soon. Midi
