Hi
Everybody,
Yesterday I went to my
friend Max's Bar Mitzvah. A Bar Mitzvah is a Jewish ceremony of
growing up. When a boy or girl turns 13, they officially start
adulthood. For the Jewish religion a Bar Mitzvah is as important as
a wedding! It is a HUGE ceremony that lasted 6 hours. The first
half was in a really big temple, 200 people were there to watch. He
invited around 50 of his classmates, and lots of people from out of
school. Also, there was alot of adults, and his whole family was
there (Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, Sister, Parents). It
was a really big deal. He spent a whole year studying the Torrah
(the jewish bible) and reading all five books! At the temple he
read from the Torrah, recited special thanks to his family, sang
songs in Hebrew (the Jewish language). That part of the ceremony
lasted 2 hours. Then everyone took a big bus to the Hyatt Hotel.
There was a ball room for eating and dancing. They played a
slideshow of Max's pictures growing up, and some videos too. Then
everyone stood in a circle around him and he was raised on a chair
and lifted up 13 times while we danced in a circle around him.
There was a buffet and everyone ate alot. Then there was 3 hours of
dancing. I'm really glad I got to go and learn about the Jewish
Culture.
Write again soon,
Midi
