Mao Zedong(1893~1976) is a famous person of great importance in modern Chinese history as well as world history. According to the official, Mao Zedong was a great Marxist, proletarian revolutionary, strategist and theorist, and was the greatest leader and founder of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese People's Liberation Army and the People's Republic of China. In my opinion, he was the greatest leader in Chinese history.

As little boys, all people told us Chairman Mao, a honorific name, was a great man and the greatest leader in Chinese history, whom we should respect and love. All our little boys liked hearing his stories and all things about him.

Under his leadership, Chinese people spent 8 years on fighting against Japanese Army and another 3 years on collapsing Jiang Jieshi’s ambition, and achieved nation’s independence and ethnic liberation. To commemorate his contributions, people often said, “No Chairman Mao, no new China” and “Chairman Mao led us to stand up”.

After the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, Mao and other leaders of PRC launched several Five-Year Plans in order to make nation prosperous and people rich. Going through many frustrations and setbacks, new China’s economic, including industry and agriculture, science and technology, medical and health, and education and so on, were still made some progress in his era.

In his last ten years of all his life, he launched the Great Cultural Revolution, which brought him a very bad reputation, and made nation’s economic held up. However, he was still called Chairman Mao, and honored by billions of Chinese people.

As Deng Xiaoping said, “Chairman Mao, One-third at fault, seven merit”.
