Pancreatic islets after receiving 0.9%NaCl, IV glucose infusion or IV lipids for 10 days. No lesions were seen in the control cat and in the cat received lipids. In the glucose-infused cat, islets were largely devoid of nuclei and revealed vacuoles, suggestive of hydropic degeneration. Hyperglycaemia but not hyperlipidaemia causes beta cell dysfunction and beta cell loss in the domestic cat. Diabetologia 52(2):336-346,2009
