在国防军中，自行车除了增加机动性外，还被用来供应部队。自行车在波兰，法国和挪威的战斗中，这些手推车为推进部队运送食物和弹药。
国防军的标准自行车被称为“Truppenfahrrad”，1942年采用了Truppenfahrrad
M42型号。除了这两种模式之外，战争中还捕获了欧洲国家大量的民用自行车。大多数平民自行车的都是来自荷兰。据统计，为了国防军的需要，生产了高达2,000,000辆自行车。
