苏联先后以各种理由吞并了8个国家的60多万平方公里的土地，其中包括立陶宛、爱沙尼亚、拉脱维亚三国的18万，芬兰的7万，波兰的20万，东普鲁士的1.5万，摩尔多瓦和捷克斯洛伐克的5万，以及南库页岛和千岛群岛的5万。

手段也是非常不讲道理，有的是打仗打赢了割地不还，有的是以保护当地侨民为理由驻军抢占，更无耻的是有些地方因为当地生活了太多苏联人而要求划为苏联土地。举个不恰当的例子，就好比中国，说因为洛杉矶的唐人街有太多中国人，所以把洛杉矶划为中国土地。这样的行为得霸道到什么地步才能做得出来。

更别说二战马上要结束的1945年8月份，苏联突然派兵南库页岛和千岛群岛，占完立马宣称那是苏联不可分割的土地，时机把握的非常巧妙。二战后的苏联，其领土之庞大简直像个怪物，虽然战时也付出了惨重代价，但长期收益并不比美国少多少。
