Medical Science Is Not A
Sophistry
( 14. The Authority
Of
Personal Knowledge
)
If we
observe the situation of TCM
(Traditional
Chinese
Medicine ) calmly for a long time, it
is
not
difficult to find that there is always a
gang
of pseudo scholars who have
been besieging
TCM,
actually, TCM has been being ruined
for
more than
100 years.
Such
guys always ignore a large
number of
objective
facts that the TCM has been
giving
effective
treatment to many patients,
and
also
ignore the pain and helplessness
of
similar
patients.
The
common trick for such guys to ruin
TCM
is
To take their ignorance
as authority、
To take their
shamelessness as courage、
And to take ignoring a
host of facts as
their own abilities.
Perhaps some
persons feel confused about
the notion of
"Taking ignorance as authority ".
So, they
may ask :
"We don't understand how
or why
professionals take ignorance as
authority ?"
This
article is to talk about the issue of
the
authority
of personal knowledge.
Namely:
Does having knowledge
really
mean having authority
?
The
first thing to discuss is the structural
issue
of
personal knowledge.
( Here,
mainly discussing professional
knowledge
structure
).
First,
let's first establish a mathematical
model
for
personal knowledge :
The Professional
Level
Characteristic
Curve
1. The
base point represents a certain major A
2. The
X-axis in the horizontal direction
starting
from the
base point represents a series of
other
majors,
and the major with less correlation
to
major A
is further away from the base point.
3. The
Y-axis in the vertical direction
starting
from the
base point represents the
relevant
professional level.
By
analyzing this professional
level
characteristic curve, we can quickly
and
clearly
distinguish many types of talents.
For
instance:
1.
Specialized type
The
characteristic curve of professional
level
is mostly
displayed as a normal
distribution,
and the
main peak is very high.
There may
be several peaks, but these
peaks
do not
surpass the main peak.
2.
Versatile type
A few
professionals have highly
strong
cross
disciplinary abilities, and
their
professional level characteristic
curve
almost
presents a high platform
trapezoid,
and there
may also be multiple peaks,
all
of which
are very high.
3.
Regular type
Perhaps
some persons may not have a
high
professional level due to their lack of
interest
in the
field or their poor foundation.
The
characteristic curve of their
professional
level
have a normal distribution.
But
unfortunately, the peak value of the
main
peak is
too small, just a microwave.
Now, we
can talk about the authority of personal
knowledge:
FIRSTLY, a principle should be
established:
Professional knowledge can only have
a
certain level of authority when
applied
correctly, rationally and in good
faith.
Otherwise, professional knowledge
may
lack any authority and even be
destructive.
SECONDLY,
we should recognize that different
types of
talents have different levels of
authority.
Based on
the Professional Level
Characteristic
Curve,
there are three types, namely,
specialized
talents,
versatile talents and regular talents.
Then, we
can easily draw the following
conclusions:
1.
Specialized talents only possess
authority
within their own specialized
field.
2.
Versatile talents possess authority
in
multiple professional
fields, but it is best
to limit
it to the professional fields
covered
by the
high platform trapezoid in
the
professional level
characteristic curve.
3.
Ordinary professionals generally
lack
authority, but
they have a certain degree
of
authority on specific issues within
their
own
professional scope or technical
level,
which should
be respected as much
as
possible.
Now, we can answer
what "To take
ignorance
as
authority"
means.
The taking of
ignorance as authority usually
occurs in the
following situations:
1. Regular
talents impersonating
Specialized
talents or
Versatile talents .
For instance, many western
medicine
practitioners are at
most just regular
talents, so that
they are only specialists
in the field of
medical technology and
basically ignorant
of true medical science,
such as TCM
.
However, some of
them always want to
ruin TCM, though
they hardly understand
TCM.
So, in the end, they
have to deny a lots of
facts that TCM
effectively treat many diseases,
and try to cover up
their professional
shortcomings in this
way, which is actually
awkward, but they
even believe that they
have participated in
some academic
discussions
!
2. Specialized
talents impersonating
versatile
talents, or
acting recklessly towards
other
professionals.
For instance, some person, once
he had
obtained a
professional title, such as a
professor, he
immediately pretended to
get some authority
to talk about
everything that even
he doesn't
understand at all
and enjoyed
ruining TCM
.
To such talents,
whenever they discover
anything difficult
to understand, they
always say
"No" to it.
e.g. TCM often encounters such
guys.
But if someone
disagrees or refutes what
he said, this guy
would show off his
diploma and
professional title.
Actually, it's just
pitiful !
All of these are
typical manifestations of
taking ignorance as
authority.
To better understand
such issues, let's give
an
analogy.
A chess master saw a
pair of Go masters
playing
together.
But he discovered
that Go masters never
referred to the
rules of chess when
arranging their
formations.
So, the chess master
told the rules of chess
to the two Go
masters, but these two Go
masters only smiled
and did not listen to
his
advice.
This immediately
made the chess master
furious.
Thus, he
said:
"Playing chess like you is not
standardized
or
reasonable.
And both of
you should know that I am a
chess master
!
So, I have
enough knowledge to prove that
your steps of
playing Go are irregular and
unreasonable
! "
Finally, in a fit of
anger, he knocked over the
Go
board directly.
This is precisely
the current situation of TCM !
A gang
of pseudo scholars who only
know
something about
western medicine but not
care about the
effectiveness of treating
diseases pretend to
know something about
TCM and criticize
TCM or even ruin TCM,
by disregarding both
a lot of facts that TCM
can effectively
treat many diseases and pains
or helplessness of
similar patients.
So, such guys are
just seeking the highs from
professional
paranoia and they
disregard
integrity or shame
.
They often shout
that they are professional
authorities, and
even say that TCM is not
knowledge
!
But in fact, their
understanding of knowledge
is very poor, far
from reaching the professional
level, let alone
authority !
