Since the first edition came out, we have received hundreds of e-mails from entrepreneurs – almost all of them complimentary. Here is a selection taken at random (the only conscious selection mechanism was that everyone chosen was asked permission to be quoted, so only those who replied appear below):

The Beermat Entrepreneur is the best book I’ve read on starting and growing a business. Having started a company in a back bedroom and grown it to 25 people out of retained profits, I found the messages spot on.

Alistair Heslop, Business Integration Technologies

(Business Integration Technologies

I am absolutely inspired by The Beermat Entrepreneur. It encapsulated every thought I have on my venture, in my kind of language, and put my motivation through the roof! I read it in 2 hours and it really pushed me into finalising business plans for funding.

Craig Hooper, Echobubble

(Echobubble

I have just read The Beermat Entrepreneur, and have only good words to say about it. As a technical person discovering for the first time what it takes to develop a business, I found the book very interesting indeed.

Craig Vardi

(Craig Vardi

A very enjoyable read: I will be recommending it to many others.

I read your book on the plane home and really enjoyed it. There was a lot of excellent advice and a good may useful tools which I’ll be trying.

Welcome to the new Mandarin edition of The Beermat Entrepreneur.

This book first came out back in 2001, and was an immediate success, both in Britain and round the world. It’s a huge pleasure to present an updated version on the basis of 2nd edition, especially in China, a country that has embraced entrepreneurship with such vigour and success.

The business environment has changed since 2001, with the rise of social media and tougher economic times. So we have adapted the book to suit this. However the basic principles of entrepreneurship are, we believe, timeless.

Our book has been popular with entrepreneurs in many sectors. Those seeking to provide services to business clients are perhaps our biggest fans, but the material works well across all types of company.  All start-ups are adventures; all require the same mixture of irrational passion and considered technical excellence – in technology, in finance, in sales, in marketing, in administration.  Entrepreneurs need ‘cornerstones’, whatever business they are in.  Sales skills are needed in every and any business. The psychology of growth is a constant.

We would like to thank Huang Yanfeng for his thoughtful translation of this book, and to Tsinghua University Press for issuing this new edition. Any you, the reader, for buying it. Good luck with your business venture.
