JEM warns against undermining Juba peace
agreement
December 7, 2022 (KHARTOUM) – Justice and Equality Movement
(JEM), a signatory group from the Darfur region, warned on
Wednesday against any attempts to undermine the Juba peace
agreement.
JEM is one of the two former rebel groups that are opposed to
the Political Framework Agreement signed between several political
groups including the Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) and the
military component on December 5, 2022.
The deal provides to restore a civilian government in the
country and to review the Juba peace agreement.
The group held a meeting to discuss the political situation
and the plans of their coalition with other groups opposed to the
framework agreement under the umbrella of the Democratic
Bloc.
“JEM Executive Office stressed its adherence to the peace
agreement and the obligation to implement it,” read a statement
released after the meeting.
The statement further underscored the necessity not to
prejudice the peace pact under “any formulation or flimsy pretexts
such as its evaluation, and other forms of fraud to undermine
it”.
On December 6, Ibrahim held similar statements in a press
conference held with Minni Minnawi and Mohamed Tirk a leader of the
eastern Sudan tribal group.
JEM leader said that the framework agreement deals with the
Juba Peace Agreement which should not be amended or reviewed
without the signatories.
And called to avoid taking such a risk.
“Those who manipulate the agreement certainly do not know the
meaning of war, the cost of war, and what people offered in return
for reaching a peace agreement,” he said.
“Do not play with fire,” he warned.
