本单元课文A主题对于本科生来说,不太能引起他们的共鸣,课文结构脉络与内容匹配不是很清晰,长句比较多,学生理解起来会有一点困难,基于这一点,我打算用课文B作为上课内容,课文A作为课外泛读。又因为是第一次课,学生事先不知道我的计划,不可能预习,以下设计的上课提纲基于学生未预习课文(这叫裸上吗,哈哈)。计划课时40m*3

Objectives

1. Talk about a good name(good reputation) and the value of a good name

2. Learn how to earn and keep a good name.

3. Enlarge vocabulary by finding “old/new friends”.

4. Write a composition on a good name

I. Lead-in

1. Of the celebrities you know in news media, who has earned a good name?

2. What do they have in common? (honest, truthful, faithful to work, open to suggestions and ideas…)

3. Involve Ss in talking about Li Tianyi’s story (李天一).

思路:

a.    Li’s father(李双江): earn a good name as a singing artist and a professor; win the respect and trust of other people.

b.    Li Tianyi: not have a sense of shame, not do anything to honor his father; fail to maintain his father’s good name…(见机引到)

II. Reading comprehension

A.   1st Reading (Para1-Para5), 5 minutes

B.   Checking questions (T or F, 单独提问,点评,帮助学生完全读懂故事)

1.    One summer day the boy was sent to buy some wires.

2.    On his way to town, the boy stopped to bathe, collect some seashells and gather seaweed.

3.    The father gave the boy some money to pay for the wire.

4.    When the boy said to Buck he needed to put his purchases on credit, he was quite certain that he would be permitted to do so.

5.    The good name of the boy’s family helped him win the respect and trust of the farmer he met in the shop.

C.   Retell the story

Encourage the Ss to add as many details as they can to the story. First work in pairs to retell the story. Then one or two will be asked to do the job before the class.

D.   2nd Reading (Para6-Para12), 6 minutes

E. Questions and Answers

1. What did the boy learn from his experience in the shop(para.6)

2. What did the boy’s father do to earn a good name?(para.6)

3. A good name can be the glue that holds a family tight together. Why? (para.7)

4. What did the writer benefit from his family good name? (para.8)

5. How do you understand “But it doesn’t” in para.9?

6. Why are the phrases like “thank you”, ”please” so important?(para.11)

7.    Why does a good name pave the way for “me”?(para.12)

III. Words and expressions

A. 分小组找出下列两类单词,在规定时间内找到越多越好,抄在纸上交给老师。

1. Find old friends. 本课有些单词包含了一个学过的旧单词,如barn-bar, canal-can…

2. Find new friends. 本课有些单词替换一个字母则变成另一个单词,如mill-milk, relief-belief.

随堂掌握时间,时间到,老师展示并点评最长清单并表扬该小组。

B. Put the sentences below into Chinese.

1. I liked nothing better than getting behind the wheel of our truck and driving into town on the old mill road. (L1)

2. Many store clerks watched black youths with the assumption that they were thieves every them they even went into grocery.

1.Read the text again to get a better understanding of the text..

2. Writing.

Write a composition with no less than 150words on the title A Good Name. The outline:

1) A good name is powerful/important.

2) My family(grand parents, parents, brother or sister) has earn a good name.

3) What should I do to maintain my family’s good name.
