前边发了条关于公共政策的英文帖子。忽然想起前些日子跟我的忘年朋友Marcel聊天时，Marcel 聊得兴起，顺便抽出一本白皮小册子来送我。我一看，这不是在陈列在国会办公楼走廊里任人取阅的美国宪法吗？这本小册子共46页，Marcel 特别翻到21页，指出了第一条修正案：

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

这条修正案通过于1791年。45个单词规定了五大freedoms. 而且迄今一名普通的公民都愿意随时向外人推荐，我不能不承认我当时感受到的对于美国及其人民，这短短45个单词所传承的历史分量。
