威廉·巴特勒·叶芝(William Butler Yeats,1865~1939),爱尔兰诗人、剧作家。曾被T.S.艾略特誉为“二十世纪最伟大的诗人”。1923年获诺贝尔文学奖。叶芝的诗歌寓情寓理,富有浓烈的意象和象征意味,后期诗歌倾向于布莱克式的神秘主义。他不但是“最后一位浪漫派诗人”,也是现代主义诗人,更重要的是以其丰沛深邃超越了现代主义。
智慧随时间到来
枝叶虽茂,根只有一条;
在所有青春虚妄的日子,
我在阳光下将花叶招摇;
如今我可以枯萎进真理。
The Coming of Wisdom with Time
Though leaves are many, the root is one;

What he talks about,
And there's a politician
That has both read and thought,

Of war and war's alarms,
