    雉科包括雉与鹑。前者主要分布在亚洲，后者则遍布除南极洲之外的所有大洲。
    雉科鸟类与人类关系密切，特别是从原鸡驯化而来的家鸡，是最常见的家禽。
    许多亚洲国家的国鸟都属于雉科，例如印度的蓝孔雀，斯里兰卡的黑尾原鸡（蓝喉原鸡）、日本的绿雉。中国的国鸟虽然还未选出，但代国鸟已经有了，就是红腹锦鸡。
