Following a
careful review of its Postgraduate
programs, The University of Sydney Business
School has introduced a 2 year (96 credit
point) version of the Master
of Commerce and
the Master
of Professional Accounting programs
from Semester 2, 2013. These 2 year programs
will replace the current
1.5 year (72 credit point) programs which will not be available
after Semester 1, 2013.
We
are pleased to be able to offer these new 2 year programs
internationally and are confident that these new programs will
enhance further still the quality of the student learning
experience, and better position them to
be ‘employees of choice’.
While
retaining the prior program’s flexibility and outstanding range of
specialisations, the new 2
year Master
of Commerce program
incorporates a number of key enhancements to student choice and
opportunity. In particular, students will now
study two innovative core units designed to sharpen problem-solving
and critical thinking skills and
provide ‘hands-on’ experience
in managing business growth and development.
Other innovations targeted at high-performing students include
in-program industry placement opportunities, a practitioner-led
business skills development program, and the opportunity to
undertake a supervised research dissertation.
The new 2
year Master
of Professional Accounting program
is designed to meet the recently expanded foundation knowledge
requirements specified by the key accounting professional
accreditation bodies, CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered
Accountants in Australia. In addition, the new
program will incorporate a suite of specially designed elective
units in Accounting, Business Information Systems, Business Law,
Finance and Human Resource Management, as well as a new core unit
designed especially to sharpen business problem-solving and
critical thinking skills. High performing
students may also have the opportunity to undertake a credit
bearing, in-program internship.
Details on the
structure of the 2 year programs will be available on The
University of Sydney Business School’s website:
http://sydney.edu.au/business/study/courses/postgraduate
by
the end of this week.
The Courses
for Overseas Students (CRICOS) registration codes for the new
programs are as follows:
„ Master
of Commerce (96 credit
points): 077328F
„ Master
of Professional Accounting (96 credit
points): 077337E
Recognition of Prior Learning
Prospective
students applying for these new programs will be assessed for
eligibility for a reduction in the volume of learning in
recognition of prior study in the business field and details will
be included in the Offer letter.
In
the new Master
of Commerce program,
an applicant who has a Bachelor’s
degree in a business or related field may be eligible for a
reduction in the volume of learning of 24 credit points, which
would enable them to complete the adjusted
program (72 credit points) in 1.5 years if that is their
preference. Applicants will, however, have the
option not to accept a reduction in the volume of learning and to
complete the program over 2 years if that is their
preference.
In
the new Master of Professional
Accounting program, an
applicant with a Bachelor’s degree in a business or related field
may be eligible for a reduction in the volume of learning of 18
credit points. They would still be required to
complete the program over 2 years, but could do so at a reduced
volume of learning – that is, 78 credit points rather than
96.
