The only way to reduce the amount of traffic in cities today is by reducing the need for people to travel from home to work, education or shopping. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

There are various reasons of traffic congestion in crowded cities. I disagree that the number of people who work and study shouldnt be diminished in order to prevent the traffic jam.

Taking the people who go to work and come back to home in the same hours -known as rush hours- first, they have to work to earn money so the number of these kind of people shouldnt be decreased. For instance, in developing countries the figure of unemployed people are more than employed people, so the unemployment rate in developing countries is not as much as developed countries. In contrast, according to last statistics the traffic jam is increasing gradually in developing countries.

Turning to students, they have the similar daily schedule with the people who go to work every day. The education is one of the most important issue in a country to sustain a good position in the world. One way of solving the congestion problem caused by students is to provide buses for only students and reduce the price of tickets.

On the other hand, the shoppers increase the number of the cars in traffic during the day. According to some polls, many people do shopping mostly in afternoons and evenings. However, profit of stores and markets might decrease, they have to change the closing time in order to prevent congestion caused by shoppers in specific hours during the day.

To sum up, in my view reducing the number of students and the people who go to work every day is not the solution for traffic jam instead of decreasing the great deal of shoppers in the evening.
