可爱而悲伤的美国球迷

(2007-05-10 20:39:18)
It's hard to watch knowing that my beloved Rockets are no longer alive to fight another day, but i am a basketball junkie, and like all junkies i just can't stay away. I'm still going to tune into the games, and NBA TV, and espn.com and nba.com and hoopshype.com and anything else i can find to get the latest nba news. But in the short term, i'll tune in everyday, hoping to finally here the great news that JVG has finally been fired or stepped down as coach of the rockets. Like someone else mentioned earlier, how long can this organization continue to sell the same product. JVG is a product. And his players are products. This is the same man who first tried to turn us into the Knicks. He traded talented players for has beens like Mark Jackson and Clarence Weatherspoon, and brought in his former players like Charlie Ward (should have been in the NFL)and Patrick Ewing as coaches. All of them were players not especially gifted as NBA players, but who like him worked their butts off and made themselve who they were and have longevity in the league. I respect that trait in them, but all it got us as a franchise was the least talented team in the NBA (if you take away TMac and Yao). I was discussing the Rox problems with my brothers the other day after we loss, and i asked them to name one other team in the league that only had one player (in the rotation) that could actually create a shot for himself or someone else. Even the bottom feeders like Atlanta, Charlotte, Portland, and Memphis don't fit that discription. Even Washington who lossed their two allstars for the playoffs didn't fit that discription. We were all fooling ourselves to believe that this Houston team, with this roster, and rotation currently constructed the way it is could actually win it all. I mean it would have taken Yao and Tracy playing at their very unstoppable best against the leagues best just to have a chance. and then a tremendous amount of lucky breaks. And what would a first round victory really have gotten us except a false sense of success (I beleive a 1st round victory would have been deemed a success by management seeing as Tracy or Yao have never advanced) and a lot more of the same next year, JVG back on the bench next year, and more passed their prime veterans giving it all they got, which is better than a high lottery pick, but not a chance at seriously competing for the ultimate prize. Then if we would have won the series, and been fortunate enough to beat G-State (i dont think we could have) and advance to the WC finals because we lucked out not playing Dallas, and Yao destroyed G-State's small ball, then we would have been set back another 2 or 3 yrs because of that false sense of success. So in hinesight, losing this series was a blessing in desguise as hard as it is for us to stomach now. As for this offseason, i like most Die hard Rox fans am extremely interested in seeing how the new GM puts his stamp on this franchise. I hope firing JVG is the first order of business. I hope he will take note of G-State success, and Dallas and Phoenix, and Chicago, ect. and realize that diversity on the roster, and with lineups are a huge factor in todays NBA. Bring in a new coach, and a new system to take advantage of all the rule changes to speed the game up. Not like Phoenix because we do have Yao as the cornerstone of this Franchise, but at least level the playing field for our guys. I see our needs as a starting caliber PG/PF (Rafer/Hayes can stay as backups) and at least one other wing player who can play the 2 and 3 who is athletic enough to put the ball on the ground and put pressure on the defense. Sura should go in any deal, Mutombo should be released (had a great season but just to old and slow going foward), and Juwon should be traded if at all possible. JL3 is also expendable. And i don't know if this is possible but is there any way possible we work a sign and trade with Wells? What do you think?

Aaron,

It's possible. He has one of the best agents in the business, Bill Duffy. He could find a place for him that will fit him better, but that could exceed what that team could offer. Duffy is the type that would pride himself at finding an arrangement that works for his client and if it needs a sign-and-trade, would be something for the Rockets to consider.

Jonathan
