表倍数关系的几种句型

英语中常见的表倍数关系的句型可归纳为以下三种：

1.       A is X times as +adj./adv.(原级) + as B

2.       A is X times + +adj./adv.(比较级) + than B

3.       A is X times + the + n.. (size , length, height, width…) + of B

例如：This river is twice as long as that one. 这条河是那条河的两倍长。

The earth is forty-nine times larger than the moon. 地球比月亮大四十九倍。

The building being built there is five times the height of this old one. 那边正在建的那座楼的高度是这座旧楼的五倍。

使用上述句型时须注意下列几个问题：

一、表示倍数的词：一倍用once，两倍用twice，三倍或三倍以上用基数词+times；此外表倍数的词还有half, a quarter, one third, three fifths, ten percent等，而且倍数名词前还可加表程度的more than, over, less than, no more than, not more than, only, simply等词。例如：

   This rope is only half the length of that one.

   The population in that country is only ten percent of that in China.

   Their house is more than six times as large as ours.

二、第一种句型as…as…结构中要用形容词或副词的原级，形容词原级之后有时还带有名词或冠词+名词；第二种句型中than前用形容词或副词的比较级;第三种句型中名词前须加定冠词the，介词常用of。例如：

It is said that workers in Shanghai earn more than three times as much money as those in Qinghai do.

三、第三种句型中的“the + n.. (size , length, height, width…) + of B”部分有时也可替换为一个名词性从句。例如：

If you offered me six times what you have just offered, I would still take my pound of flesh. (SEFC Book3 Lesson41-42)
