1.      Figure out - find an answer by thinking about something
Example – Nancy will figure out an easier solution to this issue.

2.      Gain ground - go forward, make progress
Example – We have been gaining ground in our attempt to be the best team in the competition.

3.      (to) have a lot on one's plate - to have a lot to do; to have too much to do; to have too much to cope with. Note: There is also the variation: to have too much on one's plate.
Example - Carlos turned down the project, explaining that he already had a lot on his plate.

4.      On The Same Page - When multiple people all agree on the same thing.
Example –
Are we all on the same page with the project requirements?

5.      Hold your feet to the fire - To hold one accountable for a commitment, make good on a promise.
Example –You said you will send the report to me by 5 PM and I am going to hold your feet to the fire for it.

E.g. Have a ball – have a good time, to enjoy oneself greatly/thoroughly.

 

1.        Turn over a new leaf - to make a fresh start, to try to develop new habits or to do something different to change your life for the better.

Example - This year I've joined a gym and exercise everyday. I'm turning over a new leaf.

2.        Bring to the table - whatever you can possibly offer

Example – The project manager met with the customer to show them what his company could bring to the table.

3.        Carve (out) a niche - find a special market that you can control

Example - If you can find a way to offer ways to make your product easier to use you could carve a niche in a highly competitive market

4.        Down time - when equipment or facilities are unavailable, so you cannot work

Example – Some new patches have to be installed on that server. This would mean a lot of downtime over the weekend.

5.        Rain check - If you take a rain check, you decline an offer now, suggesting you will accept it later.  

Example – I was supposed to play basketball with Johnny on Friday. I'll have to ask him for a rain check.

6.         A pat on the back – to appreciate someone for their good efforts.

Example - Sam deserves a pat on the back for the excellent work he has put in for this project.

7.      Can’t make head or tail of something– cannot understand something at all

Example – I bought a table from IKEA last week and tried assembling it. I just can’t make head or tail of their instructions!

8.      It beats me – don’t understand

Example – It beats me why this program won’t run. Everything seems ok with it.

9.      Slipped my mind – forget about something

Example – I was going to send the report to you but it just slipped my mind!

10.    Race against time - to have to work very quickly in order to do or finish something before a certain time.

Deadline – A final date for the completion of a task or project.

Example – The deadline for the project was Feb 3 and the team was racing against time to complete it.

 

11. Get the ball rolling - be the first one to start or do something, while encouraging others to join in the effort.
