Unit 6  I’m more outgoing than my sister.

No.8 Xia Ting

I. Analysis of the teaching material

1. Status and Function

This part is for listening comprehension,which is about personal traits and how to compare friends.  It helps the Ss to learn further to describle personal traits and compare people by using the target language:the comparative degree of adjectives.  It also trains and improves the Ss’ ability of listening comprehension.

2. Teaching goals

(1)Knowledge object

    To use the target language to describe personal traits and compare people.

(2)Ability object

    To improve the Ss’ ability of listening comprehension.

(3)Moral objects

    a.To enable the Ss to work and communicate with others and help each other;

b.To learn to discover others’ advantages and learn from others;

c.To enlarge the Ss’ abilities of making good friends.

3. Teaching Key Points and Difficult Points

Teaching key point: To train the Ss’ ability of listening comprehention.

Teaching difficult point: To try to make the Ss understand the listening material and finish the listening task sucessfully.

II. Analysis of the students

The students have had some listening and oral experience about what good friends are. But it’s not enough for the Ss to understand the listening content easily. So in the process of teaching, I will preset some easier speaking and listening practice.

III. Teaching and learning methods

    Teaching methods:

1) Extensive listening method 

2) Intensive listening method

Learning methods:

1)Observation-imitation-practice method 

2)Perception and verification method

3)Comparison method

Teaching Aids: A tape recorder and multi-media

IV. Teaching procedures

   Step 1. Pre-listening      

(1)Let the Ss listen and sing an English song---“the more we get together”.

(2)Ask the Ss to look at the chart and capture the relative information about the listening material.

   Step 2. While-listening

1. Finish 2a

Extensive listening: Play the recorder the first time and ask Ss to get the main information about what Holly and Maria like about their best friends, and write it down in the chart.

Intensive listening: Play the recorder again. The Ss are expected to get more specific and crucial information about Holly and Maria, so they can finish 2a part step by step.

    2. Finish 2b

    Change the chart into a more specific table, so that the Ss can understand how much information they would have to capture in this part.

       Play the recorder for the third time. Ask the Ss to listen to get the general information about the differences and similarities between friends and finish the task as much as possible.

       Play the recorder once more, get the Ss into intensive listening for 2b and ask the Ss to finish their incomplete parts.

   Step 3. After-listening

    1.Ask the Ss to retell the imformation in the dialogue according to the answers in the chart. That’s teaching old things in a new way.

   2. Do a Groupwork.Ask the Ss whom they will make friends with if they have a chance to be friends with Holly and Mary, and why?
