六月份开始，每个月明尼苏达州的可持续农业协会将组织一次农场参观，每次参观不同类型的农场。这次我们参观的农场是Kalliro Farm。AMY和他丈夫买下这个农场已经7年了，农场面积70多英亩。请大家跟随我一起进行这次农场之旅吧！

这个农场主要种植苹果，这些花盆里都是一些经过嫁接的苹果的幼苗，一棵苹果的幼苗经过4-5年的时间才能长大结果实。

因为不施用农药，他们种的品种都比较矮小，这样方便发现树上的病虫害。而下面这个简易的鸡棚，通过每周的移动，在养鸡的同时，鸡的粪便也给树木施了肥料。

这些猪都很可爱，见到我们这么多人来，很快就聚集过来。不过，周围用电网拦着，他们有时候吃的得意忘形时，会突然被电到，然后发出吱的尖叫。他们的鼻子上都有一个环，为的是不让他们吃了草根。

最后，让我们来给可持续农业下一个定义：可持续农业其实是一种经营理念和经营态度，让生物和自然与自然的转化过程相适应。我们的耕作方式要支持健康的生态系统，健康的经济发展和一个健康的人类社区。可持续农业是一个动态的并且不断变化的过程，在这个过程中整合人与自然的关系。

Attending the Sustainable Farming Association farm trip

June has started – every month Minnesota’s Sustainable Farming Association organizes a farm visit, and each time you go to see a different kind of farm.  This time, we went to see Kalliro Farm.  Amy and her husband have owned this farm for seven years; it has an area of about 70-odd acres.  I invite you all to come with me on this farm journey!

This farm mainly grows apples; in the pots are apple seedlings that have been grafted.  It takes an apple seedling four or five years before it can finally bear fruit.

Because they don’t use chemicals, the varieties that they grow are all fairly short so it’s easy to spot pests and disease.  Below is a simple chicken coop; by moving the coop every week, the chicken guano fertilizes the trees at the same time that you’re raising chickens.

These pigs are all very cute – when they saw so many of us coming, they quickly came over in a group.  But there’s electric fencing around them, so sometimes when they get so excited that they forget, they suddenly get shocked and let out a squeal.  They have rings in their noses so they won’t eat the grass roots.

Finally, let us give the following definition to sustainable agriculture: sustainable agriculture is a kind of operating principle and attitude, letting living things and nature and natural processes fit themselves to each other.  Our method of farming supports a healthy ecosystem, healthy economic development, and a healthy human community.  Sustainable agriculture is a dynamic and constantly-changing process which integrates the relationship between humans and nature.
