My Writing Teacher
When I was at university, I had an English writing teacher
called Bill, who was an American, whose wife was called Monie --
just had the same pronunciation as ’money’, and they had
completely contrary characters, so we always joked that their
marriage was arranged by God so that they would never lack money
and could complement each other perfectly.
Bill had an excellent writing skill -- we could see it clear
from his comments on our compositions, but he couldn’t express
himself very well in class. Sometimes when he was teaching, he
would choke all of a sudden since he couldn’t find an exact word
or sentence to show his idea.Then we all laughed lightly, and Bill
laughed too, a little embarrassed.
However,Bill was not a mechanical teacher, he always
encouraged us to show our mind freely and write articles frankly
and heartedly, so we all liked telling him our true thoughts in
our writings. Sometimes, a few students, including me, would not
write articles according to the assigned titles he gave us.We just
chose some other titles we were interested in and we’d like to
write about. I think Chinese teachers seldom allow students to do
such a thing, and some Chinese teachers even scold or punish
the students who dare to do so. While
