毫不夸张地说，春节是一个世界性的奇观。每到此时，或许会有相当于半个欧洲的人，在中国的大地上或者是天空中迁徙，这也许是外国人所不能想像的。

那春节究竟是什么呢？说实话，它的意味，复杂绵密，难以定义。

春节是家——父母苍老慈祥的容颜，丈夫或者妻儿的笑。在中国，这个节日属于家庭，属于这个民族千百年来最为真实的价值：孝敬、慈爱、亲情、责任。

所以春节是团聚——一个中国人，无论他在哪里，到了春节，他首先要做的，必然是奔向自己的家，与亲朋好友团圆。

春节是忙。是迎来送往，是厨房里年夜饭的辛劳，是游子们千里万里的奔波。到处是拥挤和繁忙，几千万甚至是上亿的人奔向他们的家，带着红红火火的希望。

春节是新——十几亿人不约而同地打扫了他们的家，孩子们穿上了新衣服。因为中国人相信，生活中旧的、沉重的，将就此过去——来的都是新的，快乐的和幸福的。即使是最失意的中国人人，在春节里也对未来怀着一份希冀。

春节是惊天动地的闹。中国人过春节，一定要放鞭炮。禁放令实施了十几年，终于在各地次第放开，这说明中国人某种根深蒂固的生活信念，是多么的顽强。你即使提出一千条理由来反对放炮，你也不能反驳放炮的一个理由——那就是，在那震天彻地的大闹中，终年劳作的人们感到，旧的去了，新的来了，日子是喜庆热闹的。

春节是红——是中国红，是鲜红的对联，是农家的窗花，是街道上窈窕的大红披肩，是孩子的红包，是通红的鞭炮，是正月十五的灯。

春节是天下。在这个节日里，中国人爱他的家人，也与天下人相亲。在春节，每个人都怀着善意，待这世界，他们觉得万物都是亲的。

春节是中国——是古老的大地、人民和习俗；是天下、岁月和吉祥；是热和闹，是红和火，是和和谐，是对十几亿人中的每一个的深长祝福。

                        What’s Spring Festival?

It’s no exaggeration to say that the Spring Festival is a miracle to behold in China. Just imagine that mass exodus - over the period, an equivalent of half of the total European population flits from one place to another by land, air or sea.

But what’s Spring Festival? As a matter of fact, it carries so many connotations that it’s hard to derive a single-sentence definition about this biggest annual celebration of China.

The Spring Festival is about family reunion for parents, husbands, wives, children, relatives and friends, reflecting the nation’s timeless values about filial piety, love, responsibility and friendship. It’s about bidding farewell to the old and welcoming the new. It’s about boisterous activities, one of which is the die-hard tradition of burning firecrackers that has survived a decade-old governmental ban. It is about red – Chinese Red Knot, red couplets, red paper cuts, and red firecrackers. It’s about wishing everyone else all the best. It’s about China, the country, the nation of 1.3 billion people united in perfect harmony.
