表示“许多；大量”之意，用来修饰名词的词和词组可以分为三类:
1 修饰可数名词
many /many a(an)  ；

a great/good many(of) ；

a great/good/large number of

dozens of/scores of /quite a few
eg:

Many a student _____(have)visited the Great Wall.
In winter, a good many animals _______(sleep) under the snow.
There’re a number of students reading English in the classroom.
I have been there dozens of times.
Scores of people went there in the first few days after its opening.

2 修饰不可数名词
a great/good deal of ;

large/great amounts of

a large /great amount of ;a large sum of ;

much /a little
eg:He always has a great amount of work to do.

3 修饰可数或不可数名词
a lot of /lots of /plenty of /a large/great quantity of /large/great quantities of

eg:I have a lot of books.
   We have plenty of water left.
We have large quantities of rain this summer.

The rich lady has large quantities of clothes.
