牛日河本是大渡河中游的一条支流，现在叫尼日河，在上游喜德境内称尼日波河，至上游越西河裤档沟出口与越西河汇口以上称普雄河，河谷较为开阔，水流平缓；汇口以下称漫滩河，进入峡谷区，甘洛境内呷日段称果觉河，甘洛县城以下称尼日河，此段河流深切，河床平均比降11‰。
