近日，日本爱子公主迎来她的13岁生日。爱子小公主的全称为“敬宫爱子内亲王”，出生于2001年12月1日，当时日本皇太子德仁和曾留学美国的日本前外交官雅子已结婚七年。她的宫号及名字皆出典为《孟子》〈离娄下〉：“爱人者，人恒爱之；敬人者，人恒敬之。”

爱子的出生一度引起有关修改现代皇室典范的热议。根据目前的皇位继承规则，只有男性才能继承皇位。直到2006年9月，皇太子德仁的弟弟文仁亲王的妻子纪子王妃生下皇室40年来的首位男性继承人，这一“危机”才得以化解。

爱子自4月开学之初，就因为迟到要跑回校园被拍到，形成保镖也跟着跑的独特景象，她才乖乖上学；但事隔不久，她的“厌学症”就故态萌发，不仅上学期结业典礼未到，期末考都缺席两天，最近经常拖到下午一、两点才到学校上课，并以每周平均一天的频率请假。雅子妃管不了，正在考虑让女儿转学，由目前的私立学校换到公立学校。

虽然皇室否认有关报道，但前日本皇室发言人东宫大夫小町恭士证明确有其事，认为爱子公主逃学是因为在“不批评教育”下长大，全家都对她特别保护，养成了她骄纵习性。

爱子公主爱迟到、缺课的行为，其实是从幼稚园就开始养成，父母本意是为了想耐心了解女儿、站在她的立场想，却让她爱逃学的坏习惯始终无法改掉。

据报道，有次爱子被问道为甚么不爱上学时，她竟然回答：我就是讨厌学校的老师，因为他们都不肯听我的话。

另一方面，受抑郁症所困，已经11年没有参加过日皇国宴的雅子，11月29日与夫婿德仁太子一起，出席日皇在皇宫欢迎荷兰国王伉俪的晚宴。雅子去年4月也到荷兰参加荷兰国王的加冕大典，那是她十多年来首次出国访问。
