staff 是集合名词,指一处或一个机构的全部员工

 

1)不能像一般可数名词那样,说成"one staff' 或"several staff"."many staff"

 

2)表示一群人,不能加S,后面加动词的话,也用复数,如the staff are... our staff need.

 

3)要表示数量,可用two staff members.many staff members,最好用the size of the staff或者staff size,同the size of the population(人口)和 population size是一样的道理

 

4)如果要表示招聘员工,可以把staff作动词用,to staff our new branch office(为我们新分行招聘员工),名词招聘员工用staffing,如There are staffing problems in the Sales Department.

 

5)staff放在名词前,也可作形容词,表示员工的,如staff discount员工的折扣,, staff benefits员工的福利
