We are easily confused sometimes by 'needs' and 'wants'. Similarly, we become confused by 'wishes' and 'goals.' You're being encouraged to address what you want and what you need. Synergy could exist between what you're classifying as a wish and something more important to you. Distinguishing between what is essential and peripheral will bring about a pivotal change.

I'm standing at a crossroads, for real, this time. It's not just what it seems to be, a choice between journalism and English teaching. It is a decision that will make a U-turn in my career path. The hardest one ever.

I set out with a clear objective to be a journalist, reporting news, writing features on things I see and reflecting on thoughts I form throughout the course of witnessing what's going on in the society I dwell in. And that's a perfect match to my educational background entailing over four years of professional training in Australia. Many held the view that I was definitely on the right track of diving into media arena. Even I myself was convinced that the dream was destined to come true. So I came back with a strong anticipation and a bold heart to play a role in Chinese media. Out of question I hit the speed bump on the road to reach my illusionary goal.I was actually ready to face any discrepancies between my expected reality and the hard truth. However, I had never thought of it would take me this long to arrive at where I am now, dangling between teaching and journalism professions with a ever-than-never flummoxed mind.

Preparing to embark on a more appropriate pursuit?

The problem is I can't decide on what is genuinely essential to me at present. To nail down my bread and butter maybe? One thing for sure is I'm not yet ready to give up on my wish to be an influential media worker. The passion and incentive are still there, hard-to-deny. Nevertheless, being committed to full-time teaching suggests that I probably won't be able to 'return' to media sphere the way I envisage it to be. Say 3 years later, will I regret making such a decision today?
