One
story from our local colleagues
September 17,2007,around 9 a.m., I steppped into a room full of
people sitting behind laptop computers with their fingers busy
running accross the keypads and their faces looked very
serious.
Most of them
are Chinese, but also some local people and one European. It was my
first time to enter Huawei office. And it was my first day of work
in this entirely new atmosphere.
Huawei had just opened a new office in the country after winning
some projects and I had been hired as a local
account manager to help expand the market. Today, after almost two
years, I relize Huawei has been a real school not only for work but
also for my personality.
The first thing I had to learn is that Huawei draws on a rich
Chinese culture of devotion to work and discipline. I had never
seen a person who revere work and discipline himself to work so
hard before I came to Huawei. And this devotion to work is backed
up by the belief that nothing is impossible, even what seems
unreachable. All you need is to just go ahead and try unless all
openings entirely shut down before you. And even in that case, you
still need to analyze the failure and retain the lessons useful for
future battle.in fact, in Huawei, most missions are imossible
missions, one of my trainers told me one day.
Apart from this, Huawei helped me to really focus on results rather
than workload. In fact,no work done is of any use until it
contributes to produce the expected results. The culture of results
is proper to Huawei. Maybe in other companies, they place
importance of the load of work done and the results somehow. But in
Huawei, the results are your only evidence of good work. So, by all
means, you need to reach the target. This has really shifted my
view of what a hard work is: not the quantity of work you do,not
the time you spend to do it, not the efforts you deploy, but the
results you reach. Then I have understood why Huawei has been able
to grow so fast.
Before I joined in Huawei, I had been in management positons in
another local company for several years. Now in Huawei, I had to
submit and follow instructions from a supervisor, sometimes in very
hard conditions of cultural difference. Then I understood that if
you know how to be a leader and at the same time a follower, you
are automatically engaged in the path of a great future, because
you have in you the seed of humility;and humility lead to
highness.
One day I read a saying from Sidney Greenberg, which changed my
vision of work and life for good. He said:"A successful man is
the one who knows how to bulid a firm foundation with the bricks
that others throw at him." From that day on, I started making every
challenge and task and opportunity to lay my own
foundation. That is how today, I have succeeded in building esteem
from my co-workers and supervisors. And our team is successful in
reaching sales target which are astonishing as related to the
difficult conditions in which we win.
I really believe with Domesthenes that:" Small opportunities are
often the beginning of Great enterprises."
