Chinese more worried about food safety than cancer- survey

Chinese consumers rate food safety as the second gravest risk to health, with only earthquakes triggering more anxiety, according to a recent report from an insurance company.
Fears over food contamination rated higher than cancer, unsafe water supply and drunk driving, said the survey commissioned by UK-based RSA China.
The company estimated that a possible reason why earthquakes were listed as the number one concern was because the poll was conducted in the immediate aftermath of the Qinghai quake in April.
The country has been rocked by a number of high-profile food contamination scandals in recent years – including widespread tainting of infant milk with melamine in 2008 which killed seven and sickened around 300,000.
The global risk evaluation survey looked at the five major risks facing people presently. Regional and personal issues were found to draw more concerns than global ones. Respondents worldwide regard high living cost, cancer, speeding, drunk driving and climate change the top five concerns.
