Disney is really an expert in giving a human character to its cartoon characters. As a result, moviegoers often tend to believe that what they see on the big screen, especially animals,is as cute as a real version of the energetic monkey, wise duck or naughty mouse they saw in movies.
Such is again the case of Zootopia, the latest blockbuster(大片)of Disney which casts Finnick,a fennec fox.Despite being a con artist(行骗老手),the fox is seen by moviegoers as a loveable character.
“After watching Zootopia,my daughter became crazy about fennec foxes and wants one for a pet,”said Mr.Brown,a movie lover.
Pet traders are reported to sell the fennec foxes on some shopping sites, with prices ranging from 25,000 yuan to 40,000 yuan each. They claim the foxes are easy to keep and can be fed insects, dog food or cat food.
However, selling and keeping the animal as pets is against the law.Fennec foxes are imported from North Africa. They are listed as a threatened species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. In China, the fennec fox is also classified as an endangered species. They are given second—class protection in the country. The import and sale of the animal require approval from the authorities.
In addition, some animal protectionists have expressed health concern about the new pet fad(宠物时尚).David Rouse,an animal expert in California, said that most foxes found on the pet market were captured in the wild. They are very likely to carry deadly viruses.
29.What’s the purpose of Paragraph 1?

The fight to save the banana just gets more challenging.A fungus(真菌)that threatens the world’s most popular fruit is spreading. And it's doing so despite huge efforts to stop it.
The killer fungus is known as Tropical Race 4,or TR4 for short. It’s the fourth type of fungus to cause Panama disease that destroys the roots of banana plants and stops them from growing.TR4 wipes out banana crops wherever it reached the Philippines and southern Africa.
For their new study,Gert Kema,a professor from Harvard University, and his team examined fungus from each of these locations. The researchers analyzed TR4 DNA from bananas in those countries. If the genes in some bananas were quite different from those in others of their type, some banana plants might be able to resist the fungus.
Unfortunately,no cure for banana plants infected with TR4 exists.Because the fungus releases spores(孢子)into the soil, these tough, seed—like structures wait until another banana is planted nearby. Then they attack it.That means a farm that has been infected will stay infected. And live spores can hang on in the soil for decades, waiting for their next victim. What’s more, irrigation water and equipment can spread the disease.Even dirt on the shoes can send spores from one spot to another. All of these help to explain how TR4 has been spreading since its original outbreak.
Kema’s team identified the TR4 clones through a DNA-sequencing technique. It allows rapid identification of an organism’s(微生物)genes.”Farmers can also use a different type of DNA test to check their soil.Doing so could help to slow the spread of TR4.”Kema notes. The hope is that over time researchers may be able to develop bananas that are resistant to fungus.
33.What is the passage mainly about?
A.The killer of bananas worldwide. B.The result of the new study.
C.The cure for banana plants. D.The way a spore is reproduced.
34.What’s the character of TR4?
A.It mainly lives in water.
B.It is the deadliest disease for plants.
C.It can carry spores in banana fruits.
D.It is easily spread in various ways.
35.We can know from the passage that______.
A.banana plants can be saved by genes
B.a spore only exists in the soil for several years
C.there is no efficient way to fight TR4 at present
D.it’s easy to find a cure for plants infected with TR4

Dear Peter,
How is everything going? I am writing to ask you some advice on our English reading club.
To widen our horizon and improve our English, my friend and I plan to set up an English reading club in our school. We’ll buy some original works of some famous writers and order China Daily and the 21st English newspapers to learn about different cultures and happenings in the world. Of course we’ll hold varieties of reading activities. We’ll provide chances for members of the club to exchange opinions on certain books so that they can learn from each other. Besides, we’ll recommend good books to members of the club.
Such are our plans. Would you like to give us some advice?
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

Text 3

M: Um, I like it, but it’s a little big. Could I try on a smaller one?

W: For this printer… um…that comes to 375 pounds.
M: Oh, I think I will just take it home myself.
W: Ok. Will you pay by credit card?
M: I’m afraid I forgot to take it. And I don’t have enough cash. Could I pay for it by check?
W: Certainly.

W: Well, my radio is missing. I don’t know what I’m going to do without it. I had it by my bed to listen to on Sunday mornings.
M: Anything else?
W: My jewels on my dressing table have gone. Luckily, I didn’t leave any cash in my house.

W: By the way, we don’t allow any pets here.
M: I see. What about decorating?
W: If you decide to move in, we will repaint the apartment on the condition that you can rent it for two years.

As we know, a guide dog is a dog specially trained to guide a blind person. When Penny grows up to 90 days old, she will be tested for intelligence and personality. If she can pass the test, she will become a guide dog. Everyone is welcome to join in the project. And each class has different duties as follows.
Some students will help run a special Internet page all about Penny on the website. In speech
and communication class, students will write the questions and conduct the interviews on the website. Students in English class will update the daily information that appears on the page and respond to all the emails addressed to Penny! The geography class will help them to do the same work as the English class. In life skills class, students with behavior problems or learning disabilities will look after pet Penny. It will teach the students about the responsibilities of caring for a dog and improve their behavior, too.
