In most towns today, you can see adolescents standing over electronic machines with flashing lights, shooting at spaceships from other planets and dropping bombs on strange monstersThe machines have names like Space Warrior, Dark Invader and so onIt used to be believed that damage was done only to those strange visitors from outer space, but now it seems that they are striking back

Many adolescents like electronic games so much that they can’t stop playingThey spend hours tightly holding the joystick controls and constantly pressing buttons marked “fire”They develop pains on their fingers because of the constant pressureThey play and play so that the pains have no chance to cure properlyThe rapid wrist movement required to guide the spaceship across the screen causes another problem: The muscles of the wrist and arm become so inflamed and swollen that they press against the bonesThis condition is what doctors now call “Space Warrior’s Wrist”

Other strange aches and pains are also likely to affect the elbows and shoulders

Another even more alarming problem is shown by the case of a 17-year-old girl which was recently reported in the British Medical JournalShe had been playing various kinds of electronic games for more than two hours a dayHer father repaired game machines and she could use the cassettes and systems in his workshop as often as she likedOne day, after playing a game called Dark Invader, she lost her consciousness and fell to the floor

Copenhagen has been the capital of Denmark for 600 years and is also the largest city in Scandinaviabut it hasn’t let these high-ranking facts go to its urban head — the city remains a low-level approach to the modernizationFrom the harbor you can get a feel for the attractive “city of green spires(尖塔)In cloudy weather, the copper-covered spires of old castles and churches lend the city a dreamlike atmosphereYou’ll think you’ve stepped into a watercolor painting

Architecturally, Copenhagen has more than its share of interesting sights, from the palace of Christiansborg Slot to the scenic tower of Vor Frelsers KirkeThe Danish capital pretty much covers all the needs of the international visitors, and does it in a typical Scandinavian way

Copenhagen got its name from the word kbenhavn, which means “merchants’ harbor”It grew in size and importance because of its position on the body of water between Denmark and Sweden, guarding the entrance to the Baltic

From its humble beginnings, Copenhagen has become the largest city in Scandinavia, home to 15 million peopleIt’s the seat of one of the oldest kingdoms in the world

Over the centuries, Copenhagen has suffered more than its share of disastersIn the 17th century the Swedes repeatedly besieged it, and in the 18th century it suffered the plague and two destructive firesIts last major disaster occurred in 1940 when the Nazis invaded Denmark and seized it until 1945 when the British army moved in again, this time as liberators

Copenhagen still has some of the characteristics of a villageIf you forget the suburbs, you can cover most of the central belt on foot, making it a great place to visit

24Which aspect about the city in Paragraph 1 is the most impressive according to the writer?

AIts large size         BIts beautiful sight  CIts modernization   DIts cloudy weather

25Which of the following topics are mentioned in the passage?

①population      ②history       ③agriculture      ④architecture         ⑤tradition

A①②⑤          B②③④         C③④⑤              D①②④

26The underlined word “besieged” in Paragraph 5 probably means “_________”

Ahelped and rescued  Bbuilt up good relations with  Csigned agreements with  Dsurrounded and attacked

27Which of the following statements is True according to the passage?

AThe architecture in Copenhagen is the representative of its modernization

BCopenhagen has a long history and was ever the largest city in the world

CCopenhagen attracts lots of international visitors because of its typical characteristic

DCopenhagen was ever possessed by several countries including Britain

C

The production of coffee beans is a huge, profitable business, but, unfortunately, full-sun production is taking over the industry and bringing about a lot of damageThe change in how coffee is grown from shade-grown production to full-sun production endangers the very existence of certain animals and birds, and even disturbs the world’s ecological balance

On a local level, the damage of the forest required by full-sun fields affects the area’s birds and animalsThe shade of the forest trees provides a home for birds and other species that depend on the trees’ flowers and fruitsFull-sun coffee growers destroy this forest homeAs a result, many species are quickly dying out

On a more global level, the destruction of the rainforest for full-sun coffee fields also threatens human lifeMedical research often makes use of the forests’ plant and animal life, and the destruction of such species could prevent researchers from finding cures for certain diseasesIn addition, new coffee-growing techniques are poisoning the water locally, and eventually the world’s groundwater

Both locally and globally, the continued spread of full-sun coffee plantations could mean the destruction of the rainforest ecologyThe loss of shade trees is already causing a slight change in the world’s climate, and studies show that the loss of oxygen-giving trees also leads to air pollution and global warmingMoreover, the new growing techniques are contributing to acidic soil conditions

It is obvious that the way much coffee is grown affects many aspects of life, from the local government to the global ecologyBut consumers do have a choiceThey can purchase shade-grown coffee whenever possible, although at a higher costThe future health of the planet and mankind is surely worth more than an inexpensive cup of coffee

28The purpose of the passage is to ________

Apersuade           Badvertise            Centertain            Dinstruct

29 What can we learn about full-sun coffee production from Paragraph 4?

AIt improves the local soil conditions      BIt leads to air pollution and global warming

CIt slows down the loss of the shade trees       DIt limits the spread of new growing techniques

How to Sleep Better

If you’re having trouble getting good sleep through the night (turning, waking up more than once, for example), this text will tell you what you can do to ensure a peaceful night’s sleep

Get on scheduleChanging our sleeping time by more than an hour can severely disturb your sleep quality    31    For example, if you normally wake up at 6 amon weekdays to get to work, you might go to bed around 10 pm, because that’s when you start to feel sleepy, and it’s also a good time to ensure 8 hours of sleepIf, on the weekend, you sleep until 9 am, you probably won’t be able to fall asleep that night until 1 am

32     Wait at least three hours after dinner before going to sleepDigestion slows down while asleep, and a full stomach may interrupt sleepSimilarly, you should avoid going to bed on an empty stomach, as a completely empty stomach may equally disturb your sleeping patterns

33     Exposure to light during the time when you’re supposed to be sleeping can disturb your body’s internal clockTurn your light off, or use a very dim night light    34    They include windows, LED clocks, computer lights and cable boxes

Change your sleeping positionYou may think that it’s impossible to control what position you sleep in since you aren’t fully aware of what you are doing, but it is possible and it can make a considerable difference    35

AIf you wake up in the middle of the night, try to make an effort

BIn other words, sudden change sleeping time will affect your “biological clock”

COnly have a balanced diet in the evening

DBe mindful of what you eat or drink before bed

ESleep is considered to be adequate only when there is no daytime sleepiness

FKeep the room as dark as possible

GTry to avoid all sources of light

A篇:21-23 ACB     B篇:24-27 BDDC         C篇:28-30 ABD

21. 【答案】A

AThey spend hours tightly holding the joystick controls and constantly pressing buttons marked “fire”.以及The rapid wrist movementrequired to guide the spaceship across the screen causes another problem:…选项B为较强的干扰项,注意rapidly moving across the screen的逻辑主语是the spaceship

Other strange aches and pains are also likely to affect the elbows and shoulders.,女孩的案例与affect the elbows and shoulders无关。

From the harbor you can get a feel for the attractive “city of green spires”. In cloudy weather, the copper-covered spires of old castles and churches lend the city a dreamlike atmosphere. You’ll think you’ve stepped into a watercolor painting.

The Danish capital pretty much covers all the needs of the international visitors, and does it in a typical Scandinavian way. 选项A错在modernization这个词上,文中第一段提到Copenhagen现代化程度很低,所以它的建筑并不是现代化的代表;选项B错在in the world上,文中第一段的表述是the largest city in Scandinavia;选项D错在including Britain,从文中得知British army是解放者liberator,而不是侵略者。

28. 【答案】A

But consumers do have a choice. They can purchase shade-grown coffee whenever possible, although at a higher cost. The future health of the planet and mankind is surely worth more than an inexpensive cup of coffee.

The loss of shade trees is already causing a slight change in the world’s climate, and studies show that the loss of oxygen-giving trees also leads to air pollution and global warming.

… 这个they正好与选项G中的all sources of light对应,无法与选项F呼应。

36-40 BBDCD    41-45 ABCDC    46-50 CBCBD    51-55 CDABA

think for oneself固定搭配,意思是“独立思考”,for不需要改成by

Dear headmaster ,

I’m Li Hua, from Senior Grade 2. I’m honored to have the chance to write this letter and talk about measures we students should take to relieve the pressure of global warming.

As we all know, more and more unpredictable catastrophes have happened now or might be happening in the future because of global warming. It is high time that we took action!

As a high school student, I think we must do something to save energy and reduce the carbon emission. First, we should advocate taking a short shower in the dormitory to save water. Apart from this, lights and air conditioners should always be turned off when we leave the room. Besides, it should be our first choice to go home or come back to school by subway rather than in parents’ car. Worth mentioning, busy as we are, it’s better to eat in the canteen than use the disposable dishware. By the way, would it be possible to replace some of the old lights with the LED ones?

Thanks for your getting round to reading my letter. More effective measures are expected to unveil with the help of you and the Students’ Union. I’m looking forward to your reply!

Yours sincerely
