relate一词词义丰富，现将其用法总结如下：

　　1．意为"讲（故事等）；叙述（事实、奇遇等）"。其后跟名词或从句。如：

　　He related to his wife some amusing stories about his employer.他对太太述说有关他雇主的一些趣事。

　　He related just how the accident had occurred.他讲述了事故发生的经过。

2．意为"把......联系起来"。与to或with搭配。如：

I can't relate what he does with [to]what he says.我没法把他做的和说的联系起来。

　　It is difficult to relate  these results with/to any known cases.这些结果很难与任何已知的原因相关联。

　　We can't relate the phenomena with anything we knew.我们不能把这些现象跟我们知道的任何事情联系起来。

　　3.用于习语：

(1)be related (to).意为"和......有联系；和......有关"、"（与......）有亲戚关系"。如：

 

They are related to each other.他们彼此之间有亲戚关系。

The Dutch language is closely related to German.荷兰语与德语有紧密联系。

I am not related to him in any way.我和他无任何亲戚关系。

Facing the global financial crisis, the Chinese government has taken many measures related to people's life to deal with it.面对全球金融危机，中国政府已经采取了许多与人们生活相关的措施来应对。

 

(2）relate to.意为"和......有关","和......相处得好；和......合得来,相适应。如：

 

All the papers that relate to this subject are written by him.有关这个问题的所有论文都是他撰写的。

 

The panda are unable to relate to its environment不能适应环境

He relates well to people人缘好

　　She is a girl who notices nothing except what relates to herself.她是个只注意与她有关的事的女孩。

　　She doesn't relate very well to her mother.她和她的母亲相处得很不好。

 

 （3）relate. vi.  与…有某种联系(或关系)(常与to连用)：例： 

She is concerned only about what relates to herself.她只关心与自己有关的事。

 

  相处得好；体贴，关怀；适应(常与to连用)：

The two brothers can't relate to each other.兄弟二人互不体贴。

 

涉及；与…有关(常与to连用

It is a problem that relates to geography.那是一个与地理学有关的问题。

 

适用；溯及既往：

These regulations do not relate to children under the age of twelve.这些规则不适用于十二岁以下儿童。

 

符合；互相一致：

What he said did not relate with the facts.他说的话与事实不符。

 

发生共鸣；认同；欣赏；理解：
