Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing this letter to apply for the position of volunteer in 2010 Guanghou Games.

I was born in March in 1990 in Huizhou, and I have been studying in Huizhou University since 2008. I like sports very much, so I am in good physical health/my health is very good. Besides I have a good master of the main three dialects of Guangdong:Cantonese,Shantanese and Kejia, so it will not be difficult for me to communicate with the guests.

On the other hand, as I know the traditional Chinese culture and local customs very well, I can not only show the guests around Guangzhou but also introduce places of interest and famous local food to them. Most importantly, I am warm-hearted and open-minded, so I think I am fit for the job, a volunteer for 2010 Gaungdong Games.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

第二节 读写任务

   阅读材料原文及译文:

Singapore, one of cleanest nations in Southeast Asia, launched on Monday a campaign to teach people how to wash their hands properly to help curb the spread of disease.

The campaign was planned before governments around the world moved to contain the spread of the swine flu virus, which has so far killed 103 people in Mexico, and spread to the United States and possibly as far as New Zealand.

Leading public hospital Tan Tock Seng kicked off the "CSI" or clean, safe, infection-free campaign with a lucky draw that gives thorough hand-washers the chance to win a sports car, a plasma TV or shopping vouchers.

"Good hand hygiene is important/crucial in stopping the spread of infections and there is no reason why the public should not learn the seven steps to hand washing practiced by medical professionals," said Chng Hiok Hee, a doctor at the hospital and the head of the two-month-long campaign.

The seven hand-washing steps include interlacing your fingers and rubbing your hands together, rubbing your thumbs and wrists, and rubbing your fingertips on your palms, to clean all areas.

Influenza can spread from coughs or sneezes, but an increasing body of evidence shows little particles of virus can continue to exist on tabletops, telephones and other surfaces and be transferred via the fingers to the mouth, nose or eyes.Little can be done to prevent an outbreak of flu from spreading, health experts caution, but they say common sense measures can help individuals protect themselves and the number one action is hand-washing

Swine Flu Prevention/ How to Prevent Swine Flu

Singapore started a campaign to urge people to wash their hands properly to stop the spread of the Swine flu virus. Frequent hand washing is an effective way to stop the spread of the disease.

As we all know, many countries, like  Singapore ,have begun to take measures to prevent the Swine flu. In America, if people are sick or feverish, they are required to stay home from work, and children stay home from school. The government encouraged people to use a respirator when they go out. In Japan, the government also urges people to wash their hands properly as often as possible, which is almost the same as in Singapore.

   In our country, the government pays great attention to preventing the flu. The government encourage people to use good hygiene by washing one’s hands frequently and properly. In the morning, every school will make sure whether students are feverish. If they are feverish, they will be told to go to see the doctor or stay home until they recover from illness or return to normal body temperature;

As far as I am concerned, in order to fight against the Swine flu, some lectures on how to prevent H1N1 should be held to teach people how to prevent the disease. We should invite experts to talk about how to prevent the Swine flu. Besides, both teachers and students should be required to attend the lectures. I think that the best defense against the Swine flu is to use good hygiene by washing our hands properly. If we feel feverish, we’d better stay home from work. We should keep sick kids who are feverish home from school. If possible, a respirator also is a good defense against the Swine flu.

All in all, I think that it is high time that some effective measures be taken to prevent the Swine flu.
