(1)Earth
Hour, an annual international event/activity held on the last
Saturday of March, asks people to turn off their lights from
8.30 to 9.30 pm of the local time. Its purpose is to raise
people’s awareness of the environmental protection and the
climate change. Earth Hour first began in Sydney in 2007 and
after that, it spread around the world at an amazing speed.
This year, more than 4,000 cities from 90 countries and about one
billion people from the world have joined Earth Hour.
Though it is a simple mass event, people are contributing
their own way to saving our planet and one hour’s dark means a
bright future.
第二节 读写任务(共1小题,满分25分)
One beautiful spring day a
red rose came out in a forest. As it looked around, a pine tree
nearby said, "What a beautiful flower. I wish I was that
lovely."
The rose looked at a cactus and said, "What an ugly plant full
of thorns!" The pine tree said, "Red rose, what kind of talk is
this? Who can say what beauty is? You have thorns too."
The proud red rose looked angrily at the pine
and said, " You do not know what beauty is. You can not compare me
toa cactus."
Spring passed, and the weather
became very warm. Life became difficult as no rain fell. The red
rose was dying. One day the red rose saw birds suck water from the
cactus. "Does it not hurt when they bite into the cactus?" asked
the rose.
"Yes, but the cactus does not
like to see any birds suffer," replied the pine.
“The birds can bring water
to you if you ask the cactus for help.”
"Yes you can also drink from
it. The sparrow can bring water to you if you ask the cactus for
help."
But the red rose felt too
ashamed of its past words (and behavior) to ask (for water from the
cactus).
But then it finally did ask
the cactus for help. The cactus kindly agreed and the birds filled
their beaks with water and watered the rose's roots.
你读了上面的故事后,准备就“故事给我带来的启示”为话题写一篇读后感参加读后感比赛。内容要点包括:
1. 以约30字概括故事的内容;
2.然后以约120词写一边短文,内容包括:
1)你从故事学到什么道理;
2)以自己或他人的经历阐明这种道理。
范文一
Modesty Helps One to Go
Forward
(概括故事的内容)One
spring day, a red rose thought it was very beautiful and looked
down upon the cactus. However, when dying in the dry days, it felt
ashamed of its past words, not daring to go to the cactus to ask
for water.
(你从故事学到什么道理)From the story, I learn that we should be in a modest
attitude, even if when we have advantages. It is
very important for us to keep modest in our daily life. The story
reminds me of my experience.
(以自己或他人的经历阐明这种道理)When I was a Junior 2 student, I always got high
marks in English exams. But gradually , I became
so proud that I refused to help other students, when being asked
for help.Later I began to looked
downed upon other students, and even didn’t pay attention to what
the teacher was teaching in class. Many other
students who hadn’t done well in English began to catch up with me
in English step by step, with the
help of my teacher. Some clever ones even became better than me.
But I still kept too proud to study hard, and of course I refused
to ask others for help. Eventually, I fell behind with my study,
not only with English but also with all the other
subjects.
Fortunately, my teacher learned about my problem,
and encouraged me to learn to keep modest. In the end I caught up
with others with the help of my teacher.
I will never
forget that modesty helps one to go forward, whereas conceit makes
one lag behind.
范文二
A proud rose thinks that it’s superior to other plants in the
forest because of its beauty. But it later learns that beauty is
not the only thing when it sees the cactus helping thirsty
birds.(w:36)
This story
teaches us that we should not judge people or
things
only by/from their appearances.
There are other characteristics such as kindness and intelligence
that are even more important. Beauty is only a superficial
attraction but it doesn’t show what is in a person’s
heart.(W:46)
When I was
in primary school a boy was often made fun
of by his classmates because of his poor clothes.
They judged him only from his clothes but I knew
that he was very kind and honest. He was excellent at maths and
would often help me with my lessons after school. Although his
family had little money he refused to take any money from my
parents for his help because he said “I help you because you are my
friend not because I want your money”. I was very touched by his
words and was ashamed of what my classmates had done to
him.(w:106)
