Dear Mr. Lu Chuan:
I am Iris Chang’s mother, Ying-Ying, here in United
States. I have read many Chinese news reports
about your latest movie “ Nanjing ! Nanjing !” I
am really impressed that you can produce such an epic war
movie. Although I have not had the chance to see
the movie, but from all the news media reports and from your
interviews, I can imagine it’s a great movie.
Please accept me sincere congratulations!
As you know Iris Chang wishes one day The Rape of Nanking will be
made to a world-class movie, so the lessons from the history of
Sino-Japanese war will never be forgotten. She
believes the message carried by a movie is far more powerful than a
book. She had worked very hard for several years
in trying to convenience movie industries in U. S. to make a movie
on The Rape of Nanking, but it was not
successful. Now with your movie “ Nanjing ! and
Nanjing !” and a number of other movies such as “John Rabe” on the
same subject having made, she should be smiling in Heaven!
I was really touched by your description of the role of Gao Yuan
Yuan, whose role was dedicated to Iris Chang and Minnie Vautrin, in
memory of their spirits in fighting the truth and justice for all
people died in Nanjing in 1937.
Yes, what you said was so true: when you look at Iris’ eyes; she
impresses you with her never-giving-up spirit to speak for those
voiceless victims. Her courage in fighting the
historical truth and justice has been expressed in your
movie. Thank you for your effort and dedication
in making such an epic film. I hope, with the
production of your film, there will be no more war in this world in
the future! And my best wishes to you.
I have one question, when this movie will be shown in U. S. ?
I’m sorry to write this letter in English because I do not know how
to type in Chinese characters into computer. For
sure, my Chinese is better than English.
Sincerely,
Ying-Ying Chang (張盈盈)
