John

KLUGE DONATING $400M TO COLUMBIA
By CARL CAMPANILE
Columbia University today is
receiving its largest donation ever - $400 million from investor
John Kluge that will be used to provide merit-based scholarships
for needy students, sources said yesterday.
The 92-year-old former radio and TV mogul, who founded Metromedia, previously contributed $110 million to his alma mater to launch "Kluge Scholars."
"I'd rather by far invest in people than buildings," Kluge said in a recent Columbia profile.
"If I can infuse a mind to improve itself, that'll pass on to their children, and to their children's children."
Kluge is one of America's richest men and biggest philanthropists.
A fellow billionaire, Mayor Bloomberg, will give a speech at Columbia today to laud Kluge's generosity.
Kluge's scholarships will go students who have already been accepted at Columbia. Admission officers nominate the scholars.
