Ned's Beach

Old Settlement:
Lagoon: It is definitely worth swimming around the rocks jutting out of the water at the north end of the lagoon.

Follow this relaxing tour with a walk along Lagoon Beach. Or, follow this relaxing tour with a cycle to the southern end of Lagoon Road and then a short walk to Little Island.

Photo:We will then head to Ned’s Beach to pick the best locations for our early-morning shoot the following morning.

– Climb to Kim’s Lookout & Malabar. This walk is not only scenically spectacular but will provide a great overview of the Islands stunning topography and layout. Following this strenuous climb, enjoy a relaxing afternoon or morning tea at one of the Islands cafes.

– Take the North Bay & North Head Natural History Tour with Island Naturalist Dean.

Day 2 (Monday) – Relax at Ned’s Beach, snorkel this beautiful reef site and enjoy a picnic lunch.

If weather conditions are favorable, enjoy a Coral Viewing and Snorkeling Tour.

Photo:It’s up early for a pre-dawn shoot at Ned’s Beach, just a short distance from our base. Firstly, we will try our hand at photographing the flocks of Shearwaters as they leave their roosting sites and head out to sea. If you are more into landscapes, you can photograph the sunrise over the beach. As the morning progresses, we will photograph the nesting Sooty Terns around the northern end of the bay.

Late in the afternoon, we start our walk to the top of the sea cliffs at Malabar (situated just behind our accommodation). The cliffs themselves are spectacular and the views to the north across the Admiralty Islands are remarkable. If you enjoy macro photography, there are various macro subjects along the way. There will also be the possibility to photograph different bird species, including terns and Red-tailed Tropicbirds.

We’ll photograph on the cliffs until the sun sets, before heading down the mountain back to base.

Day 3

– Stroll up Transit Hill to the viewing platform which will provide you with a beautiful panoramic view of the Island.

– Picnic lunch at Lover’s Bay followed by a Specialty Snorkelling Tour to four of the lagoons stunning coral reefs.

Photo:Another early morning start, this time photographing the sunrise from the jetty at the bottom of the road where we are staying. After breakfast, we will have another attempt at photographing the stunning views from Malabar Hill. Mid-morning, we’ll head off for a cruise onto the lagoon, landing at North Bay, where we’ll have a chance for some snorkeling. The Sooty Terns nesting on the beach right in front of us number in their thousands and offer another opportunity to practise your ‘bird-in-flight’ techniques!

There will be a picnic lunch and then it’s off for a short walk to photograph the rock pools of Old Gulch. This is followed by a climb part-way up Mt Eliza, for a chance to photograph the spectacular views over the turquoise lagoon, southward to the twin peaks of Mt Gower and Mt Lidgbird. We will return via boat back to our starting point, close to our accommodation.

Day 4 – Take a guided Mt Gower Trek. This all day trek is rated as one of the worlds top day walks.

Photo:This morning we’ll head to Blinky Beach for another sunrise shoot. There will also be opportunities to photograph the beautiful kingfishers that often sit on the fence near the airstrip, as well as the possibility of photographing Masked Boobies and Providence Petrels.

After breakfast, we’ll spend time playing with light and shade in the palm forests on Lord Howe Island, before a bit of free time. Our final sunset session is close-by our base, on the shores of the lagoon at Signal Point. With views of Mt Gower and Mt. Lidgbird as your backdrop, you can’t go wrong!

Day 5 – Relaxing massage at one of the Islands day spars. Cycle to Blinky beach for a surf or a beach walk.

– Snorkel with Turtles at Old Settlement Beach.

Day 6 – Enjoy the stunning, crystal clear expanse of the Islands lagoon with a stand-up paddle board session or a kayaking tour. Walk to the Clear Place and relax in the serenity of this amazing palm forest.

Day 7 – Ball Pyramid fishing, snorkeling or diving
