A few days ago,I talked with
Dr.K,and understood so many things about education, culture and
security in Liberia.
I wondered why there are so
many kids not going to school. And I asked if the tuition is
high.Dr.K told me that the school fee is very low in public
schools, they don’t want to study because they are lazy.In
Liberia, the tuition in private school is high, but the tuition in
public school is very low.He went to public schools from elementary
school to high school, then he went to University of Liberia which
he could afford it,his major was biology. After graduated from
University of Liberia,he got a bachelor’s degree,and then entered
medical school of UL.He asked me how much do you think the tuition
for medical school?To my surprise,it was free!I couldn’t
understand.I asked him,if the tuition was free, maybe many students
applied for medical school. He said, that did not happen, only a few
students wanted to study in medical school because you could go to
work and got a pretty good salary after graduation from UL instead
of studying hard for another 5 years. Now he is an intern in JFK
hospital, his salary is about 300 USD after tax.
Dr.K told me that Liberian
are very lazy, the farmers in distant county don’t want to produce
rice and vegetables, instead they went to Monrovia and worked to
earn small money, then they bought some rice and went back home.No
one wants to work in Liberia,so he cann’t imagine the future of
Liberia.
I asked his opinion about
the religious crisis in Lofa county. He said that the incident was
actually a tribe conflict. One of the two tribes believed in
Muslim, the other believed in Chirstian.I asked him why they still
killed others even they worship God.He said because they pretended
to be a good man.A man who really worships God won’t kill
others.
Liberia,a beautiful but undeveloped
country,it needs our help, especially in mind.
