When I came to Liberia at first,I couldn't
understand what Liberian said.The
pronunciation of Liberian English is different from American
English or British English. The native people speak English quickly
and not clearly, generally they don’t prounce the last syllable. For
example, when they want to say “Chinese”,they will pronounce
“Chinee”.When they want to say “What’s your name?”,they will
pronounce “Wha you nee?”.So it’s difficult to understand their
meanings. And another characteristic is that they pronounce “t”
instead of “th”.
Liberia has 16 counties. It is smaller than
Shandong Province. The Liberian are composed of
three parts, although they are all blackmen. The American Liberian
are descendance of American Blackmen, they set up this country, and
most of them live in Monrovia. The American Liberian believe in
Christianity, and they speak English clearlier than the others. In
fact, most of American Liberian had never gone to
USA,they are descendance of Congo.Another part of them are
immigrants of nearby countries, such as Ghana and Sierra Leone. Most
of those people believe in Islamism. The third part, also the largest
one, are native men.
I have met some doctors from USA and UK.There
is difference between American English and British
English.British speak English traditionally and clearly. The
American speak English casually.
