As a Chinese mandarin teacher, I hate wasting time in inefficient ways to learn foreign languages, so I’m trying everything to find very flexible ways to teach students, by checking different books, by analyzing different students' learning styles and situations. And I teach Chinese to other language speakers through online classes or in 1-to-1 manner (both online and in person).

Background information

      My name is Zou, I’m  from Guangzhou-Foshan metropolis, I speak mandarin, English, Hakka and Cantonese, and basic French. I’m single and have much free time.

     I have gotten bachelor degree from university many years ago. For many years I worked with foreigners from different countries as a translator, and I love getting along with people from different cultural backgrounds.

      I love reading lots of books, including Chinese poetries (Tang and Song), Yuefu poetries, Analects of Confucius, western history in English, American biographies, history of Southeast Asia religions, and etc. and I’ve read Bible several times. I am viewing this world as a whole, through the world history, from ancient times to now and the future, and through peoples from east to west.

     I love Chinese culture because I have been emerged inside and my characters are built up within. When I’m free, I spend time practicing Chinese calligraphy and play Guqin, an ancient Chinese music instrument to please myself and enjoy peace.

Teaching experiences and philosophies:

     I designed special courses for businessmen who don’t have time to learn characters in our in-person lessons; I pay attention to all students at different levels in my class when I taught online (I have taught 2 classes of pre-major degree foreign students of colleges in Guangzhou during 2021-2022 school year, one of them is a very small class, the other one has 20 students). I always try to figure out how to encourage and motivate my students to learn in a more active and efficient way.

     Through teaching classes, I have learned how to manage the class.

     I also love kids between 0–18-year old, I would love to talk to little kids, I love to talk to teenagers with possible inspiring thoughts, I always wish I could help them with my words. I see these kids with love, hope, compassion and empathy. Because I still remember how I grew up.   (I will give examples here: in the church, I talk to 5-12 year old kids, always want to understand them, teach them and encourage them; I have a friend of 13-14-year-old girl, I build a good relationship with her mother also because I love the girl so much.  when they have conflicts, the little girl talked to me, so I help them to understand each other.

        I hope I am suitable for this position as a mandarin teacher.
