今天早晨,契爷走了 Dr. HSIN KAN CHEN(1918-2009)

今天,2009年9月29日,打开电脑,正常地工作着,突然Skype上的视频铃声响了。跳出来的是契爷的号码,我的心被揪着,我的手有点抖。至丛契爷入院,这个号码一直挂着,知道契嬷和家里人都在忙,不便多打扰,只有等待。虽然已经知道等待的结果,但仍然不希望听到那个铃声。

“今天早上爸爸走了。”契爷的大儿子在视频的另一头把这个残酷的事实告诉了我。沉默~~~只有沉默~~~喉咙梗住了,女人不哭~~~脑海里浮现的是契爷那慈祥的笑容,耳边又再次传来了契爷的话语“Be positive, have a sense of humor, and have faith.”(乐观,幽默,充满信心地活着),感觉到他那温暖的大手,仍然紧紧地握着我的小手~~~

天堂再会,我亲爱的Dr. Chen!!

Dear  friends, relatives, and scouters, just to let you know that my dad passed away peacefully in his sleep this morning at 1 a.m. at marion hospice. Thank you for all your kind prayers, visits, letters, emails, flowers. Below is his obituary and info about the memorial service on saturday, oct. 10, 2 pm at Chown Memorial and Chinese United Church in Vancouver.

DR. CHEN – Hsin Kan


This is to announce the passing of Dr. Hsin Kan (Maurice) Chen of Vancouver, B.C. at age 91 on September 29, 2009. He is survived by his wife Alice and sons Cedric, Lister (Louisa), Ingram (Mimi), Regan, many loving brothers and sisters, cousins, nephew and nieces, and hundreds of Scouters worldwide. Kan grew up in Victoria and worked at his family’s restaurant, the Panama Café on Government St. He graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1944, and Ontario Veterinary College in 1947. He worked at Connaught Medical Research Labs 1947 - 1953. Then he worked for the federal Dept. of Agriculture, Health of Animals Div. from 1953 – 1982. He was a member of the 1st Victoria Chinese Scout Troop in 1932. He then continued for more than 50 years with Scouting as the beloved leader, Hawkeye, until this year. He was honored with the Bar to the Silver Acorn Award in 2004.

Thanks to his caring doctors, nurses, and staff: Dr. William Lee, Dr. Charles Scudamore, Dr. Peter Krykorka, and the nurses/staff of Jim Pattison Pavilion and Marion Hospice who made his last days easier. Celebration of his life at Chown Memorial & Chinese United Church, 3519 Cambie, Vancouver on Sat. Oct. 10, 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Scouts Canada, 664 W. Broadway, Vancouver, B.C., V5Z 1G1, or Chown Memorial & Chinese United Church, 3519 Cambie St., Vancouver, B.C. V5Z 2W9 or the charity of your choice.
