动词后是否可以接形容词?

‘In 1603, however, Queen Elizabeth the First of England died childless, and the next in line to the throne was James the Sixth of Scotland.’
大家注意到没:died childless
这样的句子并不少见,再来一例:
They were shot dead by British soldiers.

http://www/uc/myshow/blog/misc/gif/E___6696EN00SIGG.gif于是产生了疑问:childless adj.无子女的;众所周知,修饰动词用副词,这里怎么用形容词呢?
其实,这是一种误解,并非动词后面不能接形容词,诚然,动词后大部分是接副词的;只是两者有区别。下面我们来看看动词后接形容词与接副词的区别:
1 不及物动词后接形容词:句子的主语是形容词的逻辑主语,这里的形容词修饰的是主语,表示主语的状态或结果。
eg:He married young.

3 及物动词的宾语后接形容词:宾语是形容词的逻辑主语,表示宾语的状态或结果。
eg: He drank the tea hot.
注:有时形容词的逻辑主语也可以是句子的主语。
eg: The soldiers marched in the wind and snow, cold and hungry.士兵们在风雪中行军,又冷又饿。
(很显然,这里的cold and hungry的逻辑主语是句子的主语:the soldiers)
4 及物动词的宾语后接副词:副词是修饰动词的。
eg:The beggar ate the food ravenously and quickly.
(这里的ravenously and quickly,是用来修饰ate的,表现吃的状态。)
