《天门狐仙》是世界上第一台以高山奇峰为舞台背景，以张家界天门山的山涧峡谷为表演舞台的山水实景演出；也是目前世界第一台有完整故事情节的山水实景音乐歌舞剧。总投资1.2亿元人民币，演员队伍达530多人，由湘籍音乐大师谭盾担任音乐总监，。
      该剧取材于湖南传统花鼓戏《刘海砍樵》，在此基础进行了艺术再创造，借助天门山不可多得的奇美山水，通过灯光、音响、舞台机械、数码影像等设施配置，并 运用视觉特效手段，将多种艺术元素融于一体，呈现出一场气势恢宏磅礴、视觉奇幻绚丽、情节生动感人、歌舞美轮美奂的艺术盛宴。
