The Mental Health of College Students

AbstractNowadays more and more people begin to concern about the mental health of college students. My article mainly analysis the topic from the school education aspect, although the problem consists of many reasons, including the environment of family, society; and the individual’s personality.

There is no doubt that china has grow up rapidly during more than 30 years, which is too rapid to adapt to ,especially the new generation with the great social pressure .Under the big environment, Chinese college students have more and more mental problems, that means they have low mental health.

Generally speaking, health can be divided into three parts---physical health, mental health and adaptability of society, and at some sense, adaptability of society can be included in mental health.

Mental health, compared with physical health, refer to the active and positive condition of inner being. There is a general survey that shows that, of 100 college students, about 10 students have seriously considered committing suicide, and about 45 students say they are so depressed, and more than 30 freshmen feel overwhelmed a lot of free time.

 

(1)The mental problems of the college students.

1.1Students feel depressive, Being depressive is common among college students. for most college students, college life are kinds of new life. Most students really leave homes so far for the first time and  make new relationships, so more or less they feel lonely. Different students with different customs mix in college, which easily causes conflict. Nerves relationships make college students blue, besides ,they feel anxious when graduating from college.

1.2 Students feel frustrated. Most college students have fragile emotions. Compared with middle school, in which they just study ,not concerned about other things, because their parents have done what they could do; college life is much richer than it, but at the same time it make them feel frustrated when faced to the little difficulty. For example , they feel hard to get through all kinds of exams, and they are easily defeated by the love affair.

1.3Students feel inferior. College is a place to make ever top students plain, which often let them down. It is difficult to accept being normal for college students, which is like a bird flying on the sky ,but dropping down the land.

(2)The solutions of the mental problem.

2.1 Emphasizing the PE. The best way of forget the troubles are to work, and similarly doing exercise could reduce the mental problem. The exercise habits and interest have significant interrelationship with mental health.

2.2 Building the mental health service. The mental health services are supposed to be many kinds, including face-to-face service, and line-on-line talk. According to the request of college students, college can choose one way or two ways both.

2.3Giving the special class to fresh students. Freshmen in college always have long time of adapting to new life. The special class is about the introduction of new life. This is necessary .One hand, special class serve as foil; the other hand special class makes the road of college students easier.

 

  Above all, I talked mainly from the campus environment to solve the mental problem; in fact, a college student’s mental health is caused of many reasons. In addition to the campus environment, there are social environment, and family environment. Compared with social environment, family environment is more important to human being’s personality. Family environment makes people special, and hold different personality.

  Another reason that causes college students’ mental health is individual’s personality. Individual’s personality is more variable than environment. It can be shaped in later. College students as young, accept new ideas easily, and also change the personality easily. College students are supposed to have following personality: Firstly, good habits of life. College students should live in order. Doing exercise and eat on time. Secondly, good relationships with others. College students should open their hearts to others, with hot heart, talking and helping each other. Thirdly, optimistic attitude. College students should have an idea that there must be sunny days and cloudy days. The road of life is not plain. And when college students face to the difficulty, they should try to get over, not escape, and always hold a belief that everything will be ok.

  Forming one’s own personality and adding to the big environment, with an ordinary heart are the tools to keep the college students’ mental health.
