今晚,女儿带回她和其他5位同学共同完成的一本食谱小册,我挺喜欢的,就把它拿出来跟大家分享一下。

To keep warm in cold weather, native Americans drank tea made from herbs.

 

Ingredients:

1 inch piece of ginger

1 teaspoon of maple syrup

1 cup of water

 

Steps:

 

Step 1: Boil one cup of water.

Step 2: PLace the ginger in a cup and pour the boiling water over it.

Step 3: Cover and let the ginger soak for ten minutes.

Step 4: Scoop out the ginger with a spoon and stir in maple syrup.

                       New England Mashed Turnips

 

The most important meal of the day was supper. they would usually eat meats and vegetables.

 

ingredients:

1 pound turnips

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons butter

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper

 

Steps:

step 1: Peel turnipswith a vegetable peeler and cut them into 1/2-inch cubes.

Step 2: Fill a medium-size pot with water and bring to a boil.

Step 3: Add 1/2 teaspoon salt and the turnip cubes and bring to a boil again.

Step 4: Turn the heat low, cover the put, and simmer for 20 minutes until the turnips are soft.

Step 5: Drain the turnips in a colander in the sink.

Step 6: Put the turnips back into the pot and warm on low heat for a minute to dry off moisture.

Step 7: Add butter, half-and-half, and the rest of the salt and pepper.

Step 8: Stir with a spoon while the butter is melting.

Step 9: Mash with a potato masher until soft and fluffy.

                                 Pilgrims' Honey Apples

 

Colonists brought young apple trees, pear, cherry, plum, and quince trees, Benjamin's mother often made apple pie, she also made apple juice and appple cider. In winter she dried apples, plums, and peaches.

 

Ingredient:

3 Medium of 2 large tart apples

1/2 cup honey

2 tablespoons cider vinegar

1/4 cup cream

 

Steps:

 

Step 1: Peel, core, and slice each apple into thin slices.

Step 2: Bring the honey and vinegar to a boil in a medium-size pot.

Step 3: Turn the heat low and gently and place six or eight slices of the apple in the pot at a time.

Step 4: Simmer about 5 minutes or until you can see through the slices.

Step 5: Very carefully scoop out the slices with a slotted spoon.

Step 6: Spread them on a plate to cool.

STep 7: Pour cream on top of the cooled apples.

 

     Serves 4 people.

                             Baked Butternut Squash

 

People backed butternut squash to celebrate their first good harvest when they went to the new land.

 

Ingredient:

1 butternut squash

Butter

Brown sugar

 

Step 1: preheat the oven to 400F

Step 2: Cut the butternut squash lengthwise into several pieces.

Step 3: Cover a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place the squash pieces on top.

Step 4: Put the baking sheet and the slices of squash in the oven.

Step 5: Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, or until the squash is brown.

Step 6: Take out of the oven and serve it with a little butter and brown sugar sprinkled on top.

        This serves 2 people.
