初学书法有唐帖入笔、隶书入笔，也有篆书入笔，但都有后遗症。注意了字形忘了笔法，有些人学了几年用笔还没到位，缺乏的就是最重要的执笔、运笔的基本功。用几何图形训练，可以不管字形，专注笔法，怎么逆锋起筆回锋收笔，运笔保持中锋，反复练习折笔、转笔。笔会执了、会用悬腕和腕力了，下面再练基本笔划和练字就有基础了。
