1.Air pollution is deteriorating in many places around the world. The fact that public parks in cities become crowded as soon as the sun shines proves that people long to breathe in green, open spaces. They do not all know what they are seeking but they flock there, nevertheless. And, in these surroundings, they are generally both peaceful and peaceable. It is rare to see people fighting in a garden. Perhaps struggle unfolds first, not at an economic or social level, but over the appropriation of air, essential to life itself. If human beings can breathe and share air, they don’t need to struggle with one another. 

翻译：世界很多地方的空气污染越来越严重。日出之时，市区公园就变得十分拥挤，这一事实证明人们都渴望在绿色的开放空间里呼吸新鲜空气。公园里的人们并非都知道自己在寻找什么，然而却都涌向公园。在这样的环境里，人们一般会心态平和，所以很少见到人们在公园里打架。也许争斗的缘起既不是出于经济因素也不是社会因素，而是因为占用空气这一最基本生活需求所导致的。如果人类可以呼吸并共享空气，他们就没必要与他人争斗。
